One of our favorite rosés…or in this case rosado…comes from the prestigious Bodegas Muga in Spain’s Rioja region. It was a little hard to find in St. Louis this year, but we were thrilled to see it at The Wine Merchant, LTD. The 2023 vintage is a refreshing blend of red (Garnacha) and white (Viura) grapes. As with previous vintages, this one is a real winner

We paired this 2022 Albanta Albariño Sobre Lias with branzino topped with brown butter and almonds. It was absolutely delicious. Sobre lias (sur lie in French) means on the lees, an aging process that gives this white wine a richer mouthfeel and greater depth. Yum! We purchased the Albanta from Wines 'Til Sold Out - WTSO.com for $14.99.

We were surprised to find this Gavi at the Aldi in Shrewsbury. Made from the cortese grape grown in the Gavi area of Italy's Piedmont, this crisp white wine was only $9.99. Even at the closest Total Wine & More, the least expensive Gavi is $16.99.

Valencia is most famous for its oranges and paella, but it’s also home to some delicious wines such as this 2018 Parcelas de Familia. Aged in French oak for 12 months, this is a full-bodied red blend of syrah, cabernet franc, garnacha and marselan. It's great on a chilly December evening. We found it at Friar Tuck in Crestwood for $9.99.

This lovely 2022 Vickery dry Watervale Riesling from South Australia would be perfect for Thanksgiving. It's light, crisp and refreshing with delicious fruit. Another plus is that it's low in alcohol. We found it at Costco for the terrific price of $14.99.

We had this delicious Torre de Golbán 2018 Ribera del Duero Crianza at Guido's Pizzeria and Tapas. It’s made from 100% Tempranillo and aged for 12 months in oak. Yum!!!

I have to admit that Vinho Verde wines from Portugal are usually a bit too light and simple for my taste. But the Muralhas de Monção from the subregion of Monção and Melgaço is a real winner. It’s a delicious, flavorful white wine that tastes of oranges and apricots with hints of lemon and ginger. It can be enjoyed on its own or a pair with seafood and other light fare. This refreshing white, which got 90 points from Wine Spectator, is available at The Wine Merchant, LTD. for $10.99.

The next time you're at Big Sky Cafe, try the Clay Shannon 2022 Sauvignon Blanc from Lake County. It's available by the glass and bottle. It's very refreshing with lots of zesty citrus along with stone fruit and a touch of herbs. And if you care about scores, it got 91 points from James Suckling.
