The Charity CFO, LLC

The Charity CFO, LLC We offer bookkeeping, accounting, and tax solutions exclusively to nonprofit organizations. We understand nonprofits because we used to work for nonprofits.

Founded by a former nonprofit CFO of a larger organization, we bring real life experience to the accounting we provide. We are a team of accountants committed to working exclusive with nonprofits. We help nonprofits with all of their accounting, bookkeeping, and tax needs - all virtually. We offer ANOTHER option for your accounting services. We are a permanent solution (no more part-time bookkeepe

r staff turnover!). By working with our outsourced firm, you will get access to all the expertise you need - without having to pay a CPA to do all of your bookkeeping needs. Your service team will include a staff accountant, an accounting manager, and a CPA that will assist in all activities ranging from day-to-day tasks to complex audit requests. Think you are too small to work with an outsourced CPA firm? Our clients range between $150,000 in annual revenues to over $9M per year! Most of your over-performers aren't just ambitious.

Some of them are running a second operating system behind the scenes, regulating, masking, processing, and managing their reactions in real time, while still hitting every goal on the list.

In this week's episode of A Modern Nonprofit Podcast, Tosha and Brittan Stockert (Certified Fundraising Executive and Nonprofit Fundraiser Coach at Donorbox) get real about what it actually feels like to lead while neurodivergent, and what it costs when no one notices.
this is the burnout conversation we haven't been having.

Burnout in the nonprofit sector gets a lot of attention. But neurodivergent burnout is a different conversation entirely. Here's what leaders need to understand before it's too late.

"If a journalist paraphrased your quote and nothing was lost β€” it wasn't a good quote."

This is such a simple test, and it changes everything about how you write for the press.
Most nonprofit press releases are full of quotes that just restate what's already in the copy. They're safe. They're fine. And they're completely forgettable.

The best quotes do something different β€” they carry conviction.

They say something in a way only that person could say it, so that paraphrasing them would actually make the story worse.

A journalist would ache to keep your exact words.

That's the bar. And it's a high one β€” but it's worth shooting for.

Next time you're drafting a press release, ask yourself: Could a journalist rewrite this quote without losing anything?

If the answer is yes β€” rewrite it first. 🎯

"We communicate legitimacy with donors. But when we send that same message to the press β€” it's missing all those little personal things that tug at us."

This one minute from A Modern Nonprofit Podcast nails something so many nonprofits struggle with.

Donor communication and press communication aren't the same job:
βœ… Donors want clarity of effort, goals accomplished, and a sense that the organization is doing what it said it would do.
πŸ“° The press (and the public) want the human interest angle β€” the personal details, the emotional hook, the bigger "why this matters."

When you just copy-paste one into the other, both audiences feel like they're getting a message that wasn't written for them.

The fix? Step back and ask: Who am I actually trying to reach β€” and what do they need to care?

Worth a watch if you're a nonprofit leader, ED, or comms professional trying to get more traction with your storytelling.

Uncertainty is not going away. So the goal isn't to predict the future. It's to be ready for more than one version of it.

Scenario planning helps nonprofits do exactly that. Build a best case. Build a worst case. Build a most likely case. Then know what you'll do if any of them show up.

It's one of the most practical things a nonprofit leader can do right now, and it doesn't require a full finance team to pull off.

Here is a step-by-step guide to help you get started.

Great teams don't just work together β€” they play together. ⚾

We took the crew out to Busch Stadium for a St. Louis Cardinals game and had the best time cheering, laughing, and making memories outside the office.

Grateful for this team every single day.
