The Recycling Society announced that more than 3 million aluminum cans were recycled during the 2025–26 Million Cans Recycling Contest! Since the contest first began in November of 2023, over 10,062 books have been donated, students have now recycled more than 6.5 million aluminum cans by 63 schools in 15 states nationwide. That’s approximately 188,000 pounds of recycled aluminum, equivalent to the airframe weight of a commercial Boeing 737 aircraft.
Our friends at Flynn Park Elementary School in University City recycled an impressive 100,940 aluminum cans this school year, earning a well-deserved pizza party for surpassing the 75,000-can milestone. 🎉🍕They also finished 7th out of 56 participating schools! Flynn Park continues to be among the top-ranking schools each year because of contributors at all our Alter Metal Recycling facilities and in the St. Louis community. Flynn Park also won the Missouri State contest and earned an additional $500!
Congratulations to everyone involved. Read more about the nationwide contest here: https://recyclingsociety.org/3-million-cans-recycled/
