What are PFAS? “PFAS” is an acronym that stands for a large family of substances that scientists developed starting in the 1930s and 40s. PFAS chemicals have been valued in the apparel industry (and many everyday household items) because the way they make fabrics water and stain resistant while still being comfortable.

Many states have regulations going into effect on January 1, 2024 limiting the use of unnecessary PFAS chemicals. What does this mean for us? Understanding state laws, adhering to tighter restrictions, obtaining the necessary certifications, and finding substitute products that avoid the use of PFAS chemicals altogether.

The anticipation of tighter restrictions and commitment to sustainability leads us to source products with a new water-repellant coating that is 100% PFAS-free. Thanks to research and hard work, we are watching for products converting to a CO coating which is 100% PFAS-free. Don’t worry, the new coating will not affect the performance or quality of our garments. In fact, they’re making improvements on that front too!
