What did the St. Louis tornado response teach us about the future of philanthropy?

In the immediate aftermath of crisis, we saw what was possible when community moved first.

Nonprofits stepped outside their traditional roles. Neighbors became first responders. Resources moved through trust, not bureaucracy. Relationships, not rigid systems, made rapid response possible.

The question now is: why does it take a disaster to work this way?
