The City of St. Louis invested over $1.5 million (assumed) to stabilize the historic and iconic Wellston Loop Trolley Building. It has sat decaying and vandalized for many years.

This hub was once the epicenter of a vibrant economy corridor that hmhave life to the surroundig the community.

About the Wellston Loop Trolley Building:

The Wellston Loop Trolley Building, also known as the Wellston Loop Pavilion or Wellston Loop Trolley Shelter, is one of the last surviving reminders of St. Louis's historic streetcar system.

1. Built in 1909, it served as a streetcar transfer station at the end of the Hodiamont streetcar line.

2. During the first half of the 20th century, the Wellston Loop was one of the busiest shopping and transportation hubs in the St. Louis region, with thousands of riders and shoppers passing through each day.

3. The Hodiamont line made its final run in 1966, marking the end of St. Louis's original streetcar era.

The pavilion is considered an important landmark because it symbolizes Wellston's history as a vibrant transportation, retail, and community center that connected St. Louis City and County for generations.

Another historic and iconic building caught fire and was destroyed today. For years, this building sat vacant, abandoned, and vandalized under so many different owners (public/private). It became a nuisance for neighbors, businesses and commuters of the main corridor.

About the Old Jupiter Building:
Jupiters Clothing was one of the iconic retail stores in the historic Wellston Loop shopping district along what was then Easton Avenue (now Dr. Martin Luther King Drive) in St. Louis.

About the Wellston Loop:
During the 1950s and 1960s, the Wellston Loop was one of the busiest commercial districts in the region. Thousands of shoppers arrived daily by streetcar and bus to visit stores such as Jupiters Clothing, J.C. Penney, Woolworth's, and numerous locally owned restaurants and specialty shops.

At its peak, more than 30,000 people traveled through the Wellston Loop each day, making it a major shopping destination.
