Some of the most important work in a claim happens behind the scenes: the calls, documentation, estimates, and problems solved before they grow.

This Partner Week, we recognize the restoration and claims professionals whose partnership keeps customers reassured and driving recovery forward.

10/14/2026

Someone’s worst day doesn’t keep business hours.

When the emergency happens, claims teams, Partners, emergency responders, and restoration professionals mobilize to solve the unexpected.

This Partner Week, we thank those who answer the call at 2:13 A.M. and every hour in between to keep recovery moving.

That spot is not getting into the Halloween spirit.

If mold keeps returning, spreading, or sitting there because you are not quite ready to deal with it, there may be a moisture problem behind it. Wiping or painting over the surface will not address what is allowing it to grow.

Save the suspense for the movie. Let's figure out what is happening in your home.

It is Fire Prevention Week, so let's talk about something found in nearly every home: lithium-ion batteries.

Phones, laptops, power tools, scooters, e-bikes, and plenty of other everyday devices rely on them. Most do their jobs quietly, but how and where they are charged matters.

Use the charger provided or approved by the manufacturer, charge devices on a hard surface, and keep larger battery-powered items away from exits.

If a battery becomes unusually hot, changes shape, leaks, smells strange, or makes popping or hissing sounds, stop using it. A damaged battery is not something to keep testing to see what happens.

Your sump pump should not have to introduce itself during a basement flood.

Before the next stretch of heavy rain, make sure it has power, the discharge path is clear, and any backup system or alarm is working. Keep the area around it accessible, too.

If you are not sure how to test it safely, have a plumber take a look before you need it.

A drain-pipe leak does not always stay near the drain.

Water can move beneath flooring, behind walls, and into the next room before anything looks obviously wrong.

That is why we check the areas around the leak instead of assuming the first wet spot is the entire problem.

Fairfield County does fall beautifully. It also gives our gutters, downspouts, and sump pumps a little more work to do.

Before the leaves really start piling up, take a few minutes to clear the drainage around your home, check that water is being directed away from the foundation, and move important basement storage off the floor.

A small fall reset now can make the next stretch of heavy rain much less eventful.

Removing what you can see is only one part of mold remediation.

Three things also need to happen:

1. Find and address the moisture source.

Mold needs moisture to grow. If the leak, humidity, or water intrusion continues, cleaning the surface will not solve the larger problem.

2. Keep the affected area controlled.

Containment and HEPA air filtration help prevent particles disturbed during remediation from traveling into other rooms.

3. Deal with the affected materials correctly.

Some materials can be thoroughly cleaned. Others are too porous or too heavily affected to be safely restored. The remaining area also needs to be dried and checked before the work is considered complete.

What needs to happen will depend on the material, the moisture source, and how far the problem has spread.

If you keep cleaning the same spot and the mold keeps returning, it may be time to look beyond what you can see.

Take two minutes today and locate your home's main water shutoff.

Make sure the other adults in the house know where it is, too. If it is difficult to reach, damaged, or you are unsure whether it works properly, ask a plumber to inspect it.

It is a very small piece of information - until a pipe starts leaking.

Restoration is not only about equipment and moisture readings.

It is also about helping someone understand what happened, what we are checking, and what comes next.

A clear plan does not make the damage disappear immediately, but it can make an overwhelming day feel manageable again.

Basement storage has a habit of becoming important the moment water reaches it.

Move sentimental items, documents, and anything difficult to replace onto shelving or into sealed plastic containers. Even a few inches of elevation can make a meaningful difference when water enters unexpectedly.

The holiday decorations deserve better than the basement floor anyway.

A bigger demolition does not automatically mean a better restoration job.

Some wet materials need to be removed. Others may be dried safely in place.

That decision should depend on the source of the water, the type of material, how long it was wet, and what the moisture readings show - not on how dramatic the demolition will look on camera.

The goal isn't to remove as little as possible or as much as possible.

It's to remove what needs to go and protect what doesn't.
