You don’t need fancy toys to build fine motor skills—your home is already full of opportunities.

*Stacking plastic cups
*Opening containers
*Pulling tissues from a box
*Practice scooping, pouring, and transferring items between bowls
*Turning pages in a book
*Peeling stickers

These small movements are building the foundation for writing, feeding, and dressing. Keep it simple, safe, and supervised, and let them explore at their own pace. Sometimes the best tools for learning are already right in front of you.

Potty training is a big milestone, and every child reaches readiness at their own pace. Most toddlers show signs of readiness between 18 months and 3 years old.
Look for cues like staying dry for longer periods, showing interest in the bathroom, or communicating when they’ve gone. Starting before a child is ready can lead to frustration for both parent and child.

When they are ready, a gentle and supportive approach makes all the difference.
Keep the process positive by celebrating small successes, even just sitting on the potty. Use simple, encouraging language like, “You’re learning something new!”
Avoid pressure, punishment, or shame—these can create resistance and anxiety.
Consistency helps, so try to build potty time into your daily routine.

Let your toddler have some control, like choosing their potty seat or underwear.
Accidents are part of learning, so respond with calm reassurance instead of frustration. With patience, encouragement, and support, your child will gain confidence and independence over time.

When toddlers are overwhelmed, commands can often make emotions escalate.
Hearing constant directions can feel like a loss of control for a young child.
In those moments, offering choices instead of commands can shift everything.
Simple options like, “Do you want to walk or be carried?” create a sense of safety and control.
Choices help toddlers feel heard, respected, and included in what’s happening.
This reduces power struggles because the child isn’t being forced—they’re participating.
When children feel a sense of control, their nervous system can begin to settle.
Over time, this approach builds independence and confidence in decision-making.
It also strengthens trust between parent and child.
Even during meltdowns, small choices can gently redirect big emotions.
Instead of control, you’re offering connection and collaboration.
Choices don’t remove boundaries—they create a calmer path to cooperation.
