What am I doing on this beautiful, but scorching hot Friday you ask???? Well I'm headed to do a move in cleaning for my sister and my brother in law who just closed on their new home today and we are doing it as a housewarming gift to them. I'm so excited and proud for them so we are ready to sling some Sass 'N Suds to make their new home sparkle so they can get everything moved in to a nice, clean and sanitized home for their little family. So I've had many clients and potential clients asking about different etiquette to keep and maintain a great house cleaner/client relationship so I figured it may be some things you, yourself have wondered and so thought I'd post it so you can refer back to it should you ever want to hire a cleaner. These are things that regardless of who your cleaner is, is universally appreciated...
🌺 Before your scheduled cleaning day arrives, be sure your floors are accessible to your cleaner, dishes are put away or in the dishwasher (as many cleaners don't offer that as a service without added charges etc)
🌺 Be SURE you put up any valuables or important documents. Not that you can't trust your cleaner but because during cleanings things get moved and easily misplaced and you don't want to freak out wondering where your mortgage is etc.
🌺 Tipping? To tip or not to tip....I know me personally, I price each individual job accordingly and charge what I feel it is worth so that I don't have to count on tips. However I've had those clients who tip when they feel I went above and beyond what I was supposed to do, those who tip around major holidays etc. I always say "Tipping is always appreciated but never expected".
I've had clients who ran to the store and brought me a coke back and to me that meant something. So just letting your cleaner know you see them and what they do for you for a living and acknowledging that is the best.
🌺 Do you require clients be home or not? This one may raise a few eyebrows. I've had it both ways but I'd have to say I prefer them not be home just because you dont want someone following you around your job nit picking your work would you? Of course not, however if youre going to be home let me recommend, give your cleaner room to work and don't try to keep conversation flowing either, we are there to provide a service but also don't want to come off rude either but it could be what throws our entire day off.
🌺If your home requires additional time and or services PLEASE talk to your cleaner in advance. Many have more than one home a day and need to stay on task cause again THIS is how we make a living so always, always ALWAYS keep open lines of communication with your cleaner.
🌺🌺 THIS is the most important of all, PAY YOUR CLEANER!!! I always require payment when I finish at the home and usually don't leave before it is collected. Did you know by not paying your cleaner on time it risks them replacing your slot, and it's also theft of services. The way I explain to my clients is you don't go get your nails or hair done and pay WHEN YOU WANT. You pay at completion of services and same goes for your cleaner.
