It could be another very active severe weather day in the Midwest. The SPC has placed a Moderate Risk in much of northern Illinois west to the Mississippi River. There is uncertainty on how well the air mass will recover behind a currently ongoing squall line, but signs are that it is already recovering. There are outflow boundaries also being left behind, hence strong to intense tornadoes are possible. The storms will expand into Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan later this evening.
Tornado shelters are few and far between in the region, which is largely because the area has a large number of basements which provide a good alternative. That said, there are a few you can find at findyourtornadoshelter.com. One other thing: if you get a warning, you will get a phone call if you sign up for WeatherCall NexGen if a tornado or dangerous storm is coming. No delay, tailored right for your area. Scan the QR Code and you'll be set up.
