We'd like to say a very special congratulations to Castle Properties and developer Mark Castleberry for being honored by the Mississippi Heritage Trust during their America 250 Heritage Awards yesterday for his rehab of 115 South Lafayette.

Originally constructed as an automotive repair shop and later home to a candle factory and the Starkville Korean Church, 115 South Lafayette had undergone years of alterations that obscured its historic character. Recognizing the building’s good bones, Castleberry undertook a thoughtful rehabilitation utilizing Federal and State Historic Tax Credits that removed incompatible modifications, reopened historic window bays, restored original masonry, and revealed industrial-style ceilings that had long been concealed.

Today, the rehabilitated building contains two commercial spaces and stands as an excellent example of how adaptive reuse and preservation can contribute to the continued revitalization of downtown Starkville.
