Alpine County will be seeing pile burning of woody debris from the Tamarack Fire over the coming month. Burning will begin as early as Tuesday.

Zephyr and Shoreline Crews have been assisting VM West and NV Energy with helicopter operations near Cave Rock. Over the summer, the crews cut fuel breaks to prevent wildfires from progressing into the District.

The importance of having a helicopter remove the cut logs is to maintain the integrity of the treated areas and reduce the impact to the surrounding environments.

Last week, Tahoe Douglas Fire hosted the International Fire Chief’s Association for the annual Fire Department Exchange.

The Fire Department Exchange Program facilitates in-person exchanges for fire departments facing Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) challenges.

The core focus is to encourage information exchanges among departments to broaden their knowledge base, consider alternative measures, create new solutions and improve overall practices and procedures.

On September 28, 1926, five men lost their lives, trapped by the flames of the Clear Creek-Kings Canyon Fire. Every year, the Tahoe Douglas Wildland Fire & Fuels crews set up five wildland helmets to honor each individual lost. We do this to raise awareness and visibility of the memorial site.
