April is C-Section Awareness Month and I have something honest to share.

If I could do it all over again, I would have had home births. Or doula assisted hospital births where I walked in informed and ready to advocate for myself. None of my babies had medical emergencies and for years I accepted that breech positioning meant a c-section was my only option, without ever asking enough questions.
I carried that grief quietly for a long time. But I've made peace with it, not because the regret disappeared, but because I refused to let it swallow me whole. Those 4 births and 4 recoveries are exactly what led me to become a postpartum doula and why I show up for my clients the way I do.

This month I'm sharing more of that story. If you have a c-section story of your own, share it in the comments.

I smiled at my baby and scowled at my husband. And I couldn't explain why.

Postpartum depression doesn't always look like what people expect it to look like. It doesn't always look like not bonding with your baby or not wanting to get out of bed. Sometimes it looks like loving that baby so fiercely that you have absolutely nothing left for anyone else, including your husband, including your friends, including the woman you used to be before you became somebody's mother.

I remember pulling away from my husband's touch and not being able to explain why. He wasn't doing anything wrong. He was showing up every single day, being a wonderful father and a great husband, and I still couldn't meet him where he was. That disconnect is one of the loneliest feelings in the world because from the outside, everything looks completely fine. The baby is healthy, people are helping, you went back to work, you're managing. But on the inside you are barely holding it together and you don't even know how to say that out loud.

That was my postpartum experience, and if any part of this resonates with you, I want you to hear this clearly. You did not fail. Your body went through something enormous and it needed far more support than it probably received. That is exactly why I do this work, because postpartum moms deserve someone in their corner who sees the whole picture. Not just the baby. Her too.

Drop a 🤍 if this resonates, and share this with a mama who needs to feel seen today.

I planned for a VBAC with my 4th baby. I got a c-section instead.

My blood pressure was spiking. 150/90. 165/100. My husband got on his knees and begged me to go to the hospital. I cried the whole ride there. Because I already knew.

I told the nurse that I just don't want to get cut again, but here's what I didn't expect. Of all four of my births, that one was the most beautiful. There were Black doctors and nurses on staff. The baby never left the room. I watched her come into the world through a clear drape. The doctor placed Penelope's hand on the curtain so I could touch her first.

My body didn't fail me. It kept us both safe. I share this because if you're grieving a birth that didn't go the way you planned, I understand that feeling deeply. The disappointment is real. And so is the healing. This is also why I became a postpartum doula. Because I know what it feels like to need someone in your corner during the hardest and most sacred moments of your life.

Before I had my first client, I had my first day.

I'm sharing this video from last year because I think it matters for you to know who I am before you trust me with one of the most vulnerable seasons of your life. This was me, nervous, excited, and completely sure I was exactly where I was supposed to be. A lot has happened since then. But this moment is why I do this work.
If you're expecting or newly postpartum in the Statesboro area, I'd love to be your support this spring.

By my fourth baby, I finally had help. My first three? I was drowning.

I had family. And a husband. But no one prepares you for how lonely you can feel in postpartum, even with a room full of people.

Baby #4 was a total surprise at 38, so I decided to hire a birth doula. I was hoping to have the birth of my dreams, so I invested in the emotional support and she provided so much helpful information.

Even though I already had 3 kids & years of motherhood under my belt, facing pregnancy in my late 30's was a little scary, especially when in my mind that season was over.

That pregnancy humbled me all over again. Between preeclampsia, postpartum bed rest, and yet another c-section, the last postpartum session with my doula felt like my best friend moving away. I craved more support.

That experience is exactly why I became a postpartum doula. I knew other women walking though a season like mine needed more.

I'm Diedre. I live right here in Statesboro. I'm a school counselor by day and a postpartum doula by heart, and I know what it feels like to look like you're handling it while quietly needing a lot more support.
If you're expecting, or someone you love is, and you're in Bulloch County, Brooklet, Metter, Portal, or Claxton, I want you to know this kind of support exists right here. You don't have to drive to Savannah. You don't have to figure out the nights alone.

Drop a 🌿 in the comments or send me a message and I'll reach out personally.

If you know a mama that needs to hear this, share this post. It might be the thing that helps her ask for help.

Most women don’t realize they need postpartum support until they’re already exhausted.

By the time the baby is here, you’re in survival mode.

Planning ahead changes everything.

I was nervous going from three kids to four.

By then, I finally had my groove. My son was four. He was about to start school. Four years felt like a lifetime.

And then… I started over.

I hired a birth doula during that pregnancy. Even with a strong support system, her presence was different. She centered me. She held space for me.

After the baby came, I realized something.

Postpartum is long, hard & sometimes lonely.

We celebrate the birth. Then we quietly expect women to just bounce back. And honestly that never sat right with me.

That’s why I do this work.

Spring spots open March–July.
Consultations are available now.

There is something no one really prepares you for. And I'm not talking about the diapers or the feeding schedules.

It's emotional shift, that often feels like a wave crashing over you. It's the confusing way of feeling grateful and overwhelmed at the same time.

Not to mention the way your body changes too.

And the quick way that your whole identify stretches right along with your belly.

I’ve carried four babies & I’ve done postpartum more than once. Each time was different.

Now, as a certified postpartum doula through the International Doula Institute, I support women in that same layered season.

Not just with newborn care, but with the emotional weight that comes with it. Postpartum is physical & mental.

If you are expecting and already thinking about support, we can talk now. You do not have to wait until you are exhausted.
