Today's Leadership Lesson: "Gatekeepers"
According to Robert Half Inc., approximately 11% of companies have no formal succession plan for leadership roles. Yet in nearly every organization, gatekeepers exist.
Gatekeepers often control access to information, opportunities, resources, and influence. While their expertise can be valuable, organizations can suffer when knowledge is protected rather than shared.
When growth opportunities are filtered through personal bias, favoritism, or a reluctance to develop others, innovation slows, leadership pipelines weaken, and succession planning becomes more difficult.
The solution?
✅ Cross-training
✅ Mentorship
Cross-training ensures critical knowledge is shared across the organization. Mentorship helps emerging leaders gain experience, visibility, and confidence.
Organizations thrive when knowledge is multiplied and not protected.
Great leaders don't guard the gate, they open it for others to walk through.
