🥹 For those who recently found out you are pregnant and expecting early 2027, congratulations! This is about the size of what your baby currently looks like 🤗

Even amongst the excitement and joy of a new pregnancy, the first trimester is often times accompanied with some rough morning sickness. 😩🤢

Usually, these symptoms can include nausea, actual vomiting, and food aversions; and suddenly you might crave random things you haven’t thought of in years because it’s the only thing you can imagine eating that day.

Morning sickness typically comes on between 5-7 weeks and usually tapers off sometime between 12-15 weeks.

If you’re worried about nutrients and eating, remember this- “nourishment over perfection.” Keeping food and fluids down consistently matters more than eating a perfectly balanced diet every day. First trimester can often feel like survival mode!

1. Try small, simple and basic snacks every 1–2 hours. Crackers, toast, nuts, cheese, fruit, yogurt, smoothies. Whenever you’re feeling a window to snack, take advantage of it!

2. Prioritize protein whenever possible!

Protein often stabilizes blood sugar longer than carbs alone and may reduce the “roller coaster” nausea feeling. Turkey, chicken, cottage cheese, trail mix, and hard boiled eggs are just a few ideas.

3. Dehydration can worsen nausea fast. We encourage “micro-sipping” instead of forcing large amounts of water, which can trigger nausea.

Sip on things like ice water, electrolyte drinks, coconut water, lemon water/lemonade, and herbal teas safe in pregnancy (like ginger or peppermint in moderation), or enjoy popsicles, crushed ice, or fruit 🍉 with high water content.

We know this is a tough part of pregnancy, but you can get through this one step at a time!

**If you have severe symptoms and literally cannot keep any liquids down even in small amounts, please make sure you talk with your provider!*

Mamas, what tips and advice would you give other mamas going through this right now? 💛👇🏼

If you’re fearful of labor, let’s talk about it. Please don’t feel guilty about feeling this way. It’s 100% normal, *especially* if you’re a first time mom! Fear during labor isn’t “just in your head”; it has a real physiological effect on the body.

When we feel afraid, the body releases stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. In labor, high levels of these hormones can shift the body into a fight-or-flight response — increasing muscle tension, making it harder to relax between contractions, and sometimes reducing the efficiency of contractions themselves.

This is one reason many birth educators and midwives talk about the “fear-tension-pain cycle”-

🌀Fear → tension → increased pain → more fear. 😖

When the body feels unsafe or overwhelmed, pain is often perceived more intensely. Tense muscles can work against the natural rhythm of labor, which may leave moms feeling exhausted, panicked, or like their body is “failing” them; when oftentimes, their nervous system just needs some more support.

The encouraging part, is that preparation can actually change this and help prevent that cycle!
Studies have shown that tools like:
• deep breathing techniques
• relaxation exercises and practice
• continuous emotional and physical support during labor
• visualization
• education about the birth process/positive birth stories
•continuous movement and position changes
• and confidence building preparation

are shown to help lower fear and anxiety levels during labor!

When we know and use the tools to decrease fear, the body is often better able to release oxytocin and endorphins — specific hormones that support labor progress and naturally help with pain perception and lowering discomfort!

This doesn’t mean labor is “painless, but rather, understanding birth, preparing mentally, and learning how to work *with* your body instead of against it can completely change the experience!

If you’ve had a natural birth and have used these preparation techniques, please share any tips and experiences below to help the mamas who are feeling anxious and fearful! 💛👇🏼

Even with an uptick of women choosing to birth at home 🏡 has definitely increased in the last 5 years, there are so many people who truly don’t know the difference that home birth offers with personalized midwifery care. So here’s 4 things we want women to know!

1. Midwives are trained experts in birth.

Licensed midwives are highly trained professionals who specialize in normal, low-risk pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and newborn care. They are educated to monitor both mother and baby carefully, recognize complications early, and know when transfer or collaboration with hospital care is needed. Midwives carry medications, emergency equipment, and clinical skills to manage many situations safely at home.

2. Midwifery care reduces the risk of birth trauma

One of the biggest protective factors in birth is continuous, relationship-based support. Midwives spend more time with their clients throughout pregnancy and labor, and Research has shown that midwifery care is associated with lower rates of unnecessary interventions, which can reduce both physical and emotional birth trauma for many families. Feeling heard, respected, and actively involved in decision-making can have a lasting impact on how someone experiences birth.

3. Labor is much more autonomous and there is more freedom at home.

At home, labor unfolds in a familiar environment where you can move, eat, rest, shower, vocalize, and labor in ways that feel instinctive to your body. There are no protocols, constant interruptions, or pressure to fit into a timeline. Many women find that being able to follow their body naturally helps them feel calmer, more empowered, and more connected during labor!

4. Postpartum care is much more personal and happens at home.

One of the most overlooked benefits of homebirth midwifery care is the postpartum support. Midwives continue visiting you in your home after birth to check on healing, breastfeeding, emotional wellbeing, and newborn adjustment without requiring you to pack up and leave the house with a fresh baby. These visits are often longer and more relational than the standard postpartum model.

Did you know some of these key 🔑 aspects of homebir
