The doors are locked and the windows are closed, and yet as I sit at my desk, a cool breeze brushes softly against my face. I shiver. They are here again.
In historic downtown Stayton, the second floor of the Beauchamp building is a co-working office space. The old building has a grand feeling: high ceilings, tall windows, wavy glass windowpanes and plaster walls. As a start-up business, I work in the big room where there are lots of desks. Rent is cheap and gives me everything I need. I often work late into the night and this is not the first time I have encountered them. As usual, it starts with laughter and loud voices in the downstairs lobby. It sounds like a party, but only two ever come upstairs. Right at the top of the stairs, there is a certain floorboard that creaks. I’ve tested it myself. On nights like these, it always creaks twice. This is usually where the activity ends, but not tonight. Tonight, feels different. Cool air fills the room and a petite hand tousles my hair. I believe they have become more comfortable with me, but am I more comfortable with them? Orchestra music begins to play and I hear light footsteps sashaying across the old, fir floor, thru the hall, into the conference room and back again. It must be Clarence and Louise Beauchamp twirling thru the dance hall they built above their pharmacy in 1913. Recurring creaks in the floor tell me the others have arrived. I am frozen in my chair as I listen to the soft whispers, a giggle here and there, and the rustling of taffeta bustled skirts. Suddenly a musky aroma fills my nose and I sense a presence leaning over me. A hot breath whispers in my ear, “May I have this dance?”

Our local Santiam Hospital, Stayton, Oregon was featured on KGW-TV this week as the hospital received its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine; the hospital has started vaccinating health care workers and first responders.
Santiam Hospital is the first open point of distribution in Marion County for those who qualify under Phase 1A, including health care workers, first responders and long-term care facility residents (people with other risk factors considered, as well). We're thrilled to witness the beginning of the end of the pandemic. We look forward to 2021 with our focus on faith, hope and love above all else. 🙏

This week Santiam Hospital began vaccinating first responders and other health care workers in the community.
