Realizing the huge demand for fast internet access, and that there was a lack of internet service providers in our area, we decided to build a local wireless network to offer service throughout Steamboat Springs and surrounding areas. As the initial network and business plan were being developed, we sought a name that would capture the essence of our new business venture. We ultimately chose the name ZIRKEL Wireless after the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness Area, one of our favorite places and one of the most beautiful spots on Earth. Once the company was named, we quickly built our high-speed digital network and launched our service in the fall of 2001. Since then, we’re proud to have delivered the fastest internet service the Yampa Valley has ever seen. The demand for our affordable internet service has increased and we have grown in subscribers, capabilities and coverage area, for which we are always grateful. With over 22 antenna sites, ZIRKEL Wireless Network now has the largest broadband coverage area in Northwest Colorado. Every year we preemptively increase our tower and network capacity to ensure we meet the speed and bandwidth demands of our customers. Our wireless internet network will never be complete! Lastly, ZIRKEL Wireless is a proud supporter of the Yampa Valley Community. Based on the belief that broadband internet should be accessible to everyone in the communities we serve, ZIRKEL Wireless offers free internet service for public WiFi to all libraries in our coverage area. Each year ZIRKEL Wireless supports non-profit organizations including Partners of Routt County and The United Way. We also support charitable non-profit organizations by offering all new qualifying accounts a 30% discount on our standard Internet plans.
