Somewhere along the way, women in business got told they had to pick.

Be kind → get walked on.
Be firm → get called a b****

That’s a lie. Sold to you by people who never learned how to do both.

Kind is HOW you show up. Your tone. Your care. Your humanity.

Firm is WHAT you hold. The standard. The expectation. The line.

They operate on completely different axes.

The best leaders I know are visibly kind and unmistakably firm, in the same sentence.

You’re not choosing between two traits. You’re learning to run them at the same time.

If you’re ready to lead without losing yourself in the process, enrollment to work with me is open for a limited time!

The higher you go as an owner, the more often it shows up sideways.

The snippy Slack reply. The eye-roll in the meeting. The client email dripping with subtext.

You can’t lead a team or a company while pretending you didn’t notice.

Here are 5 responses you can actually use, ranging from gentle curiosity to a hard line:

“I’m curious, what made you say that?”
“Was that meant to be a joke or actual feedback?”
“Is that helping us solve the problem, or just venting?”
“I prefer direct communication. Is there something we need to address?”
“That’s below my standard for how we communicate here. When you’re ready to talk about what’s actually going on, I’m available.”

Your team takes its cue from how you handle this. Silence reads as permission.

Save this one. Send it to a fellow owner who’s tired of decoding what people actually mean.

Ready to lead with the kind of communication that actually moves your team forward?
Comment “LEAD” and I’ll show you exactly how to do that!

A mountain weekend to most people.

A live case study on communication to me.

One thing I notice everywhere now is how good teachers make people feel safe enough to be bad at something first.

The best communicators on this trip weren’t the loudest people.

They were the ones who explained clearly, stayed calm, adjusted to the person in front of them, and made people feel comfortable asking questions.

More importantly, asking the right question was critical. Otherwise you’d get an answer to a different question.

Listening for what they’re asking, not what you THINK they’re asking.. also critical.

Beer may have contributed to miscommunications 😂

A little hiking, a little fly fishing, a lot of laughing.

Start with what’s the goal of this conversation,

Then what do I need from myself and this person to get there.

Start the conversation with the goal of the conversation, follow the steps you outlined, and watch how this changes everything.

Most clinic owners don’t realize this until it’s too late…

You didn’t spend decades becoming great at what you do just to feel like a full-time babysitter in your own business.

But now your days are filled with repeating yourself, fixing mistakes, and wondering why your team still isn’t operating the way you need them to.

It’s not because you hired the wrong people.

It’s because no one ever showed you how to lead them.

I’ve seen this over and over—clinic owners stuck in the day-to-day, avoiding hard conversations, and slowly burning out while their business depends entirely on them.

At some point, it clicks:

The owners who have teams they trust didn’t get lucky… they built leadership systems that create clarity, accountability, and ownership.

And the ones who don’t?

They stay stuck, overworked, and frustrated.

If you don’t fix this early, your business will always rely on you to hold it together.

But when you learn how to lead, everything changes.

Your team steps up.
They take ownership.
And your clinic finally starts running without you carrying all the weight.

If this is hitting close to home, it’s time to fix the real problem.
