Dave Gardner, an avid hunter and army vet who has been wearing a prosthetic for 14 years, was involved in the R&D of the new Click Reel by . The Click Reel is engineered to fine tune the fit of prosthetics or orthoses with micro and macro adjustments, so they are more comfortable, safer, and easier to wear. “I love being able to adjust my socket in both directions,” said Gardner. “Every time I sit down, or drive, I loosen my socket just a little, which makes all the difference. Layering, gummy bears and 5G -- What we've learned in 100 years on Mount Everest is an enlightening read. Everest or Chomolungma, the Sherpa name, has held a place in the heart of mountain lovers since the first climbers explored its slopes in 1921. Things have changed for better or for worse. The gear, clothing, food and communication methods are better. The fact that the carbon emissions and other pollutants are now found at all levels of the mountain is more than concerning. And so much stays the same. It’s still an ominous, mysterious, often deadly place.

One hundred years ago, a group of British explorers and their porters set out on the first reconnaissance mission to Everest. The world hasn't been the same since.

On this Earth Day, Inside Out Communications would like to call out two clients. Both are committed to doing the right thing to mitigate our human impact on the environment.

SAYA Renew Fibers manufactures polyester fiber made from recycled PET bottles, fabric scrap and leftover yardage, and they are currently doing R&D on garment recycling. This effort keeps bottles and fabric waste out of landfills and waterways, minimizes our dependence on raw petroleum mined from the earth and cuts down on manufacturing emissions. You can support SAYA by choosing to purchase produces which are made of recycled content.

Innovative Regeneration Colorado’s Feed for Seed program is a community composting initiative in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. When food scraps are sent to the landfill, they decompose without oxygen, producing methane, a greenhouse gas that is 25x more potent than CO2. If you are in Steamboat, we invite you to join the effort. Or find out how to compost in your community.

In honor of trees, I share this passage from Herman Hesse, which caught my interest.

Trees, of all kinds, have always held my respect and gratitude. Maybe it was growing up in Boulder, where I was warned because the earth is so rocky, it is tough for a tree to take root, and they should be nurtured and never cut down. Or maybe it is the shade of trees in sunny Colorado that is so welcoming to me. My business partner and I chose a tree for our logo when we started Inside | Out ten years ago. And my favorite spot in my current home of Steamboat Springs, Colorado is a peaceful grove of Aspens strung with prayer flags.

Inside | Out’s client, SAYA Fibers, made its live debut last week at the Taipei Innovative Textile Application Show (TITAS), which has become the most innovative textile exhibition in Asia. This year's TITAS showcased Sustainable Textiles which reduce resource usage and optimize manufacturing efficiency by adopting eco-friendly materials and processes. SAYA’s Rscuw, fibers made of recycled cutting scrap and overstock yardage, was highlighted at the show.

Forgotten and hidden away in warehouses across the globe are millions of yards of overstock fabric, estimated to be 15% of the fabric produced annually, and cutting scrap, an inevitable part of garment manufacturing, results in up to 25% wastage per yard. This industrial can’t be ignored any longer.

The joint venture is designed to give greater autonomy to the physicians and lower the cost of surgeries for patients, eliminating the overhead borne by hospitals. “I can be much more involved in the patient’s care and can consult with another surgeon as needed,” said Dr. Andreas Sauerbrey, “There is less bureaucracy and less overhead. There is no one who has not been impacted by COVID-19, but some populations far more than others. The Maasai people of the Maasai Mara in Kenya are facing starvation due to imposed isolation and lack of tourism due to COVID-19. The Maasai chiefs are working together to find food for 200 families in remote villages but have not been able to secure enough food to go around on distribution days. On their travels to the region over the past 15 years, photographers Kevin Arnold and Brooke McDonald have grown very close to Maasai Chief Paul Maitei and have committed to raising funds to feed the group through 2020 by starting a gofundme campaign. (https://gf.me/u/yccskd) $30 feeds one Maasai family for a week and their goal is to raise a total of $400,000, which will feed all 200 families through the end of the year. Please give if you can, but those who donate at least $500 will receive a limited-edition 13” x 19” print by Kevin Arnold which was featured in 2009 in National Geographic. Please see the gofundme page for more information.

This is a fun one. Here’s the behind-the-scenes story about how Mystery Ranch, the technical pack company which outfits firefighters, backpackers, the military and hunters, very quickly pivoted to making masks. The first version of the mask was designed for a local hospital. Then the Street Mask was created for those who prefer their “stylish” mask to elude a bit of toughness.

MYSTERY RANCH passes time during the Covid Quarantine by manufacturing and donating masks for the Bozeman Hospital, and then tweaking and refining two design...
