Snares penguins, found only on The Snares islands off New Zealand, are one of the rarest penguin species in the world. Their entire global population lives and breeds on just one small cluster of islands, and they return there every single year without fail.

Busted: FMLA eligibility isn't automatic just because someone's on the team. It depends on how long they've worked for you, how many hours they've logged, and whether your business is even covered by FMLA in the first place.

Here's the truth: to qualify, an employee generally needs 12 months of employment and at least 1,250 hours worked in the past 12 months, and the employer needs 50+ employees within 75 miles for FMLA to apply at all. Assuming everyone's automatically covered can mean approving leave that isn't legally required, or missing someone who genuinely qualifies.

Bottom line: FMLA eligibility comes down to time, hours, and company size, not tenure alone.

Adelie penguins are known for being bold, even a little feisty. They've been documented chasing off much larger animals, including seals, when they feel their colony is threatened. Size doesn't factor into the equation when it comes to protecting their own.

APS is proud to sponsor Miska, a real Gentoo penguin living in the subantarctic seas and tracked through Club Ocean's animal conservation program.

She's energetic, curious, always on the move, and apparently will fight you for a pebble. We respect it completely.

Do we need to fill out a new Form I-9 for rehires?

Answered by HR Pros: It depends on when the previous Form I-9 was completed. If you rehire an employee within three years of the date the previous I-9 was completed, you can either start fresh with a new I-9 or complete Supplement B of the previous one. If it's been more than three years, a new form is required.

To complete Supplement B, review the original I-9 to confirm the employee is still authorized to work. If they are and their documentation hasn't expired, enter the rehire date, then sign and date Supplement B. If their documentation has expired or they no longer appear authorized to work, you'll need to reverify work authorization.

If you previously completed Supplement B already, or the version of the I-9 you used has since expired, complete a new Supplement B using the current version of the form and attach it to the original.

Busted: how you pay employees and what you're required to provide them are two completely separate things.

Here's the truth: direct deposit is a payment method, not a substitute for wage documentation. Michigan requires employers to provide a written statement of earnings and deductions every pay period regardless of how payment is made. Pay stubs aren't just a courtesy: they're often required documentation for your employees' loan applications, rental agreements, and government benefits.

Bottom line: direct deposit is a convenience, not a documentation workaround. Your employees are entitled to a record of their earnings every pay period.

Wednesday, we sponsored the Troy Chamber of Commerce's 2026 Multi-Chamber Business Expo, connecting with nearly 300 business professionals from 7 chambers across the region.

Thursday, we traded business cards for boat rides and joined the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce's Hearts & Harbors Poker Run on Lake St Clair for the third year in a row, with stops at Cabana Blue, Browns, and Zef's.

Rockhopper penguins don't waddle up rocky cliffs like other penguins navigate terrain. They jump. With both feet together, they bound up steep, jagged rocks with total confidence, earning their name one leap at a time.
