Back to Where It Started — Saft Underground LLC
Every company has a story, and ours was built underground, one job at a time.
More than 20 years ago, I was a 20-year-old working at Willows Tower in East St. Louis, learning lessons that would eventually become part of the foundation of Saft Underground LLC.
The work wasn't easy. We were rewiring an old railroad interlocking tower, hand-digging trenches because of the amount of existing underground wiring, working around active railroad infrastructure, and installing new signal equipment.
Going back to Willows Tower all these years later was a reminder of where our experience really comes from.
Long before there was Saft Underground LLC, there were jobs like this—jobs where you learned to respect what's underground, understand the consequences of a mistake, solve problems in difficult conditions, and make sure the work was done right before you walked away.
Technology has changed. Our equipment has changed. The size and scope of our projects have changed.
But our standard hasn't.
At Saft Underground, we still believe the work nobody sees after the dirt is put back is some of the most important work on the entire project.
Know what's underground.
Protect what's already there.
Do it safely.
And do it right the first time.
More than two decades later, we're still proud of where we came from—and we're still building on those same lessons every day.

Another day proving that precision matters.
On controlled jobs like this, accuracy isn’t just about making it look good — it’s about making everything work together safely and efficiently. When you’re dealing with multiple variables like railroad traffic, underground utilities, tight tolerances, elevation control, and active jobsite coordination, every inch counts.
From layout to final grade, success comes from patience, planning, and attention to detail. The more moving parts a project has, the more important precision becomes.

There’s something satisfying about watching a project come together from raw ground to a clean, build-ready pad.

This one started with clearing, rough grading, elevation checks, and working through existing site conditions to get everything where it needed to be. A few days later, the transformation speaks for itself.

We take a lot of pride in making sure pads are built right from the ground up — proper grade, drainage, compaction, and attention to detail. That foundation matters long before the building ever goes up.

We’re starting to pick up some serious momentum, and we’re grateful for everyone keeping us busy.
Recently, we had the opportunity to step in and fix a runoff crossing where the original culvert was undersized and ended up washing out. Situations like that can cause major issues if they’re not handled right the first time.
We went in, reworked the crossing, and installed it the way it should’ve been done—built to handle the flow and hold up when the water comes.
