🚨 GREAT TEACHABLE MOMENT 🚨
Yesterday during our BSIS Guard Card class, we were covering Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force, including one of the most important skills for security officers: conducting proper screenings with a metal detector and handheld wand.
What happened next became a lesson the entire class will never forget.
One of the students being evaluated has been working security for years and was simply attending for a refresher. During a practical exercise, he scanned a subject and received a hit around the waistband area. Instead of investigating further, he simply said:
🗣️ “Oh yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s just your belt.”
The problem?
It wasn’t a belt.
It was a firearm.
I had strategically placed my cousin .prynce_ in the scenario, and as a law-abiding CCW holder, he was carrying a firearm in his waistband.
This is exactly how complacency gets people hurt.
Too many security officers become comfortable. Too many officers rush searches. Too many officers assume instead of verify. And when that happens, weapons make it into venues, events, businesses, and places where people expect to be safe.
The best part of this story?
Nobody was ridiculed. Nobody was embarrassed.
Instead, we coached him up.
We turned a mistake into a learning opportunity for the entire class.
Most of the students in that room were brand-new security officers. For many of them, it was the first time they had ever witnessed a real-world example of why attention to detail matters.
At CJ’s World, we don’t cut corners.
✅ We train security officers to think critically.
✅ We train officers to stay alert.
✅ We train officers to verify, not assume.
✅ We train officers to protect people properly.
Because at the end of the day, when someone walks into your establishment, your event, or your property, they are trusting you with their safety.
Training isn’t about checking a box.
Training is about saving lives.
This is why we do what we do.
This is why proper training matters.
This is why security professionals train with CJ’s World.
🛡️ Train hard.
🛡️ Stay vigilant.
🛡️ Protect people.
