It’s officially Spring and that means it’s time for Spring cleaning! After you’re done vacuuming behind the couch, take a few minutes to clean up your digital space.
1. Tidy Your Desktop
Treat your computer desktop like a physical one. Delete old shortcuts and move loose files into dated folders or cloud storage.
2. Deep Clean Your Browser
Clear your cache, cookies, and old plug-ins/extensions. This is the fastest way to fix a slow internet experience and protect yourself from extensions that may be vulnerable to exploitation.
3. Purge Your Apps
Go through your apps and delete anything you haven’t used in 6 months. Removing unused software will drive space and reduce the number of apps running in the background at any given moment.
4. Tidy Up Your Files
Sort through old files, delete what you no longer need and backup any files that are important. Once you’ve removed unnecessary data, try organizing your remaining files into a system that’s easy for you to understand. An organized system will help you not only manage your current data but also help prevent accumulating clutter in the future.
5. Enable automatic updates and update your drivers
Now you need to make sure that your operating system is current and that you have automatic updates enabled so you don’t have to think about it going forward. This helps keep your computer secure, and the updates can also fix bugs, improve performance, and add new features.
6. Recycle!
When you’ve finished purging files, shortcuts, downloads, and unused applications, right-click your Recycle Bin icon and select Empty Recycle Bin.
