♻️ IMPORTANT RECYCLING REMINDER FOR BUENA VISTA COUNTY RESIDENTS ♻️

Did you know that some recyclable items CANNOT be placed in your curbside recycling bin or garbage bin and must be brought directly to the BV Recycle Center?

The following items should be brought to our facility:

🔋 Batteries 💡 Light Bulbs 📺 TVs 🖥️ Monitors 💻 E-Waste (printers, DVD players, computers, and other electronics) ☣️ Hazardous Waste 🛢️ Used Motor Oil

Why can't these items go in your garbage or recycling bin?

Many of these items contain materials that can:

❌ Cause fires in collection trucks and recycling facilities (especially batteries)

❌ Contaminate recyclable materials

❌ Leak harmful chemicals into the environment

❌ Contain valuable materials that can be properly recycled and reused

By bringing these items to the BV Recycle Center, you're helping protect our workers, equipment, environment, and community.

Buena Vista County Residents

Many of these services are provided FREE OF CHARGE for Buena Vista County residents. (Businesses must pay applicable fees.)

Electronics Recycling Fees

TVs, Monitors, and Laptops are charged based on screen size:

📺 0"-24" = $10

📺 25"-34" = $20

📺 35" and larger = $25

**Prices are subject to change.

Hazardous Waste Disposal

☣️ Hazardous Waste is accepted BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Before scheduling an appointment, please make a list of:

✅ What items you are bringing

✅ The size of the container each item is in

Geat information about #3 plastics. Remember...food, beverage and soap containers is the general rule.

Continuing on our plastics journey, let's discuss plastics #3 —
PVC (best known as Hard white plumbing plastic)

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is commonly found in plumbing pipes, vinyl flooring, shower curtains, siding, and some packaging.

While durable and versatile, #3 PVC can be difficult to recycle because of the additives used to make it flexible, strong, or weather-resistant. Most curbside recycling programs do not accept PVC.

👉 Reuse is often the best option. Usable PVC pipe, flooring, and other construction materials may have a second life instead of heading to the landfill.

Remember: The number inside the triangle identifies the type of plastic—it does NOT mean the item is recyclable.

We have multiple 55 gallon steel drums that held used oil. If you need any, stop out during regular hours. They are free.

Reminder with the holiday on Monday, garbage collection will be delayed 1 day.

Remember when you come out to pull on the scale and bring the ticket into the office before unloading. Tell us what all is in the load. Weigh out before you leave.

Citywide Cleanup tickets go on sale today at City Hall. $15 per load to the Recycling Center, good from September-May 2027. 350 tickets available.
