Congratulations to the talented for the upcoming fall release of her new book. Honored to be selected as the cover designer.


When I first read the brief about this book - - short stories showing the plights of women discovering their own strengths amid loss and grief it reminded me of a painting I created in 2016 when I took a class with and I poured my heart into three large paintings. I used one of those paintings called, “Onward” to use for Erika’s cover. To me it echoed the angst and passion of a time I used paint to express my feelings.

This painting grew out of memories formed while paddling and swimming last summer on Caspian Lake, the Thousand Islands, and Lake Champlain. I love looking at camps along the shore—whether fancy or simple, it’s the camp vibe that intrigues me. There’s something magical about rounding a corner and suddenly seeing a camp that seems to hover on the surface of the water. The colorful, casual, and playful spirit of camp life is what I wanted to capture.

A shout-out to all the small publishers who help bring forward authors and stories that might not otherwise find a home with large publishing houses. Because of them, so many powerful voices are shared through books.

I was truly honored to design this project—hardbound with gold foil stamping, a dust jacket, beautiful paper… all the lovely details. And what a story.

Michael O. Alexander has crafted a deeply moving love letter to a father he never knew, who flew with Britain’s RAF during World War II.
