Client: Look at all the things I didn’t get done today on my To Do list.
Me: Your productivity is not measured by what was left undone on your To Do list. Your productivity is measured by what you did do today. Focus on all the things you did get done today and savor what you have accomplished.

Multitasking often involves doing two things poorly at the same time. Focus on one high priority at a time. You will get more done.

I DIDN’T HAVE THE TIME TO….

In our hurry-up world, we hear people constantly saying, “I didn’t have the time to…”, and they fill in the blank with “read my book”, “spend time with my family”, “go to the gym” and so on.

There’s a myth about the use of this phrase, “I didn’t have the time to…” It’s the belief that the statement is true. It’s not. It can only be true if it is universally true.

We all have the same 24 hours in our day. Lots of people are doing that which you did not accomplish.

What do you think we could say instead?

“I chose not to read my book last night.” “I chose not to spend time with family.” “I chose not to go to the gym.”

You have the right to say that. It’s your life. It’s your choice. It’s your responsibility to prioritize and spend your time.

SWAP YOUR BUSY-NESS TIME FOR BUSINESS TIME
We all have some low or not productive “busy-ness time”. Convert just one hour of your “busy-ness time” to “business time”, productive time. Over a year, you will add 365 hours of productive time, equal to adding 45 productive days not by spending more time but rebudgeting your time.
“It is not enough to be busy. So are ants. The question is: “What are you busy about?” “Henry David Thoreau

AVOID UNPRODUCTIVE MEETINGS
A lot of productivity time is lost in unproductive meetings.
Here are three tips to minimize unproductive meetings.
1. Ask, Is it necessary? What if we didn’t have this meeting?
2. Ask, Am I necessary? If not, no need for you to attend.
3. Ask, What is on the agenda so everyone can prepare?

YOU WON’T GET IT ALL DONE AND IT’S OK
As most have more to do than time allows, it is unlikely we will get it all done. However, your productivity is not measured by what you did not do, but rather, by what you did get done. Celebrate your accomplishments. Those are the true measures of your productivity.

WORK/LIFE BALANCE IS NOT A LUXURY
