📊 Your payroll can be on time every payday… but is it actually accurate?

Most business owners assume that if employees are getting paid on schedule, payroll must be running smoothly.

But there's a lot more happening behind the scenes.

A missed overtime calculation. An incorrect deduction. A tax withholding error. A small discrepancy that goes unnoticed for months.

Individually, these might seem like minor issues. Over time, they can become expensive problems.

💰 Unexpected costs — Corrections, penalties and additional administrative work can add up.

👥 Employee trust — Even small paycheck errors can leave employees questioning whether they're being paid correctly.

⚖️ Compliance risks — Payroll mistakes can create problems with federal, state and local requirements.

⏰ Lost productivity — Every payroll issue takes time away from running and growing your business.

And here's something worth considering:

How confident are you that your payroll is accurate—not just that it's getting processed?

Accurate payroll isn't just about avoiding mistakes. It's about protecting your business, building employee confidence and having one less thing to worry about.

🔎 When was the last time you took a closer look at your payroll process?

At Certified Payroll Advisors, we help businesses identify potential payroll issues, improve accuracy and build processes they can depend on.

📩 Not sure if your current payroll provider is giving your business the accuracy and support it deserves? Let's talk.

Send us a message for a Payroll Accuracy Checkup. We'll help you take a closer look at your current process, identify potential gaps and explore where improvements could make a difference.

Because payroll should give you confidence—not questions.

What Happens to Direct Deposits When Banks Are Closed? A Payroll Guide

🏦 Your payroll may be processed—but that doesn’t always mean the money can move.

When a federal banking holiday arrives, one of the most common questions employers have is:

“What happens to our employees’ direct deposits?”

Direct deposits generally move through the ACH network, and banking holidays can interrupt the normal processing schedule. If your usual payroll timeline relies on a day when banks are closed, deposits may need to be initiated earlier to keep payday on schedule.

And this is where planning matters.

If you wait until the last minute to adjust, you could be dealing with:

⏰ Missed processing deadlines
💰 Unexpected rush processing
📞 Employees asking where their paycheck is
📋 Extra work for HR, accounting and management
⚠️ Potential wage-payment compliance concerns depending on applicable laws

The important thing to remember is that a banking holiday shouldn't come as a surprise to your payroll process.

Before an upcoming holiday, check your payroll calendar, confirm your provider's processing deadlines, gather hours and approvals earlier, and make sure any bonuses, PTO or employee changes are ready to go.

Because your employees don't need to understand ACH processing schedules.
They just need their pay to arrive when it's supposed to.

📅 At Certified Payroll Advisors, we help businesses plan around bank holidays and payroll deadlines before they turn into payday problems.

📩 Not sure how an upcoming bank closure affects your direct deposit schedule? Reach out. We’ll help you work through the timing.

A quick payroll heads-up for October 12.

Monday, October 12 is a federal banking holiday, and while your employees may be looking forward to the long weekend, payroll still has a deadline.

Banks will be closed, which means businesses with payroll falling around the holiday may have less processing time than usual.

If you have a Monday or Tuesday payday, now is a good time to check your schedule not the Friday before.

Before the holiday arrives, make sure you have:

📅 Upcoming payroll dates confirmed
👥 New hires, terminations or employee changes submitted
🏖️ PTO and time-off updates ready
💰 Bonuses, commissions and other adjustments included
⏰ Hours and overtime finalized

Because your employees probably aren't thinking about bank closures or processing windows.

They just expect their pay to be there when it should be.

And that's exactly how payroll should feel: quiet, accurate and on time.

At Certified Payroll Advisors, we help businesses stay ahead of deadlines like these so payroll doesn't become another last-minute problem to solve.

📩 Have a Monday or Tuesday payday or not sure whether the October 12 bank closure affects you?

Send us a message. We'll help you review your payroll timeline and make sure you're prepared.

🏦 Bank holidays are easy to overlook… until payroll is due.

Most businesses know when a bank holiday is coming. What can get missed is how that closure affects the days leading up to it.

If payroll normally gets submitted on Thursday, but the bank is closed Friday, waiting until Thursday to think about it may already be too late.

And that's when a simple calendar issue can become an expensive one.

You may be dealing with rush processing, extra administrative time, last-minute approvals or worse, employees wondering why their pay hasn't arrived.

The financial cost matters, but so does the disruption.

Think about how many people can get pulled into fixing one payroll issue: the business owner, HR, managers, accounting, the payroll team…and potentially every employee affected.

And employees don't really care why the banks were closed.

They just expect payday to be payday.

📅 So before the next bank holiday, take a few minutes to look ahead.

Do you need payroll information earlier? Are there hours still waiting for approval? Any bonuses, PTO, new hires or employee changes that need to be submitted?

Those few minutes of planning can save hours of scrambling later.

At Certified Payroll Advisors, we work with our clients to anticipate these situations instead of reacting to them.

📩 Have a bank holiday coming up and aren't sure what it means for your payroll timeline? Send us a message.

We'd rather help you plan early than fix it late.

📈 Is your payroll ready for your next 25 employees?

Payroll can work perfectly well for years.

Then the business starts growing.

👥 More employees
📍 More locations — possibly more states
💰 More bonuses, commissions and overtime
🏥 More benefits and deductions
📊 More reporting
⚖️ More compliance requirements

And suddenly, the payroll process that worked for 20 employees starts looking very different at 40, 50 or 100.

That’s why growing businesses should be asking more than:

“Does our payroll work today?”

A better question is:

👉 “Will our payroll still work when our business doubles?”

Growth has a way of exposing things that weren't problems before — manual processes, limited reporting, too much knowledge sitting with one person, systems that don't communicate, or a payroll provider that simply isn't built for where the business is headed.

The best time to discover those limitations isn't after you've hired everyone.

It’s before.

🚀 Planning to grow your team?

Before you add another 25 employees, Certified Payroll Advisors can help you take a closer look at whether your payroll process, systems and support are ready to grow with you.

📩 Let’s make sure payroll can keep up with where your business is going.

🚨 Would your payroll still run if the person who knows everything about it wasn’t available tomorrow?

It’s a question most businesses don’t think about—until they have to.

Maybe your payroll administrator is unexpectedly out.

💻 Your payroll provider experiences a system outage.
👋 A key employee leaves.
🔐 Or the person who normally handles payroll can’t access what they need.

Could someone else step in and confidently get everyone paid correctly and on time?

Payroll resilience isn’t just about having backup software. It’s about making sure your payroll process doesn’t depend on one person, one password or one way of doing things.

A resilient payroll process should have:

📋 Clear documentation
👥 More than one knowledgeable person
🔐 Appropriate backup access
✅ Defined approval processes
🛟 A plan for unexpected disruptions

Because payroll is one business function that can’t simply wait until next week.

💡 Here’s a simple test:

If your primary payroll person disappeared from the process tomorrow, how quickly could someone else take over?

If the answer isn't clear, there may be vulnerabilities worth finding now.

🔎 At Certified Payroll Advisors, we can perform a Payroll Resilience Checkup to help identify three of the biggest vulnerabilities in your current payroll process—and what you can do about them.

Running payroll in-house may be costing your business more than you think.

When businesses compare payroll options, the conversation often starts with provider fees.

But what does it cost to keep payroll internal?

The real number goes far beyond payroll software.

Think about the time spent:

⏱️ Collecting and reviewing hours
💰 Entering bonuses, commissions and deductions
👥 Managing new hires and terminations
❓ Answering employee payroll questions
📋 Handling tax notices and compliance requirements
🔍 Fixing discrepancies and reconciling reports
📅 Preparing for quarter-end and year-end

Then there's the cost that's harder to put on a spreadsheet:

The time your team isn't spending elsewhere.

If an owner, HR professional, controller or office manager spends hours every pay period keeping payroll moving, those hours have a real cost to the business.

And if only one person truly understands how payroll works internally, there's another consideration:

What happens when they're unavailable?

Running payroll internally can absolutely work.

But before assuming it's the less expensive option, calculate the full cost — time, technology, administration, compliance and risk.

The better question may not be:

“How much would it cost to outsource payroll?”

It may be:

👉 “How much is payroll already costing us?”

If you haven't looked at that number lately, it may be worth a second look.

Certified Payroll Advisors can help you evaluate your current payroll process and identify where time, resources and unnecessary costs may be hiding.

🚨 Q4 is almost here — and the businesses that wait until year-end to review payroll may already be behind.

October 1 marks the beginning of the fourth and final payroll quarter of 2026. That means year-end payroll, W-2 preparation and important filing deadlines are getting closer.

Before Q4 begins, it’s worth taking a closer look at what’s happening behind your payroll.

✅ Are employee names, addresses and Social Security numbers accurate?

✅ Are payroll tax deposits current and properly recorded?

✅ Do your quarter-to-date wages, taxes and deductions reconcile?

✅ Have new hires, terminations, pay changes and benefit updates been entered correctly?

✅ Are your payroll records ready for year-end and W-2 preparation?

And with the Q3 Form 941 deadline coming at the end of October for most employers, there’s another important date already on the calendar.

Payroll shouldn’t become a year-end scramble.

For many business owners, the bigger question isn’t “Can I manage payroll?”

It’s “Should I still be spending my time managing it?”

At Certified Payroll Advisors, we help businesses take the complexity out of payroll with dedicated support, accurate processing and a team that pays attention to the details — so you can spend more time running your business.

📩 Thinking about making a change before year-end? Let’s talk.

Send us a message to schedule a quick payroll review and see how we can make payroll easier going into Q4 and 2027.
