We are taking moment to express gratitude to everyone who supports QUAD's bookshop.

Bookshop proceeds have been earmarked for QUAD to continue providing pro bono advocacy for clients like Ms. Jones in Chicago, Illinois.

Ms. Jones is a single mom of two whose oldest son experienced a racialized incident that put his life in danger.

We advocated alongside Ms. Jones for her son. The responsible party settled and Ms. Jones and her son received a settlement for the racism they experienced.

We are currently advocating pro bono for a young mom in Danville, Illinois.

When people say, “but slavery ended a long time ago.”

Remind them that’s not true.

Laws, executions, opression, mob “justice” continued (continue?) and kept (keep?) enslaved Africans and their descendants in chains long after chattel slavery “ended.”

It's not history unless it's complete.

Dred Scott Decision (1857) Dred Scott, born into slavery in 1799, eventually was moved by his master's family to the free state of Illinois and later Wisconsin.

After living in a free state for over a decade, Scott sought legal freedom.

The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, where the decision read that because Scott was Black, he was not a citizen and therefore had no right to sue.

The ruling both unraveled progress that had been made in securing African American rights in prior decades and increased the North/South political divide.
