🟠Are Service Animals Allowed in the Salon?
These animals are specifically trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), businesses must allow service animals that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples include guide dogs for the visually impaired, seizure alert dogs, and animals that provide physical support and balance.
🟠Emotional Support Animals (ESAs): These animals provide comfort and companionship to individuals with emotional or mental health conditions. Unlike service animals, ESAs are not trained to perform specific tasks. Their presence is meant to alleviate symptoms of a person’s condition.
🟠Here’s why this distinction matters in places like salons:
ADA Protection: The ADA provides legal protection for service animals to accompany their handlers in public spaces, including salons. This is because these animals are seen as essential medical equipment for their handlers.
No ADA Protection for ESAs: ESAs do not have the same legal protection under the ADA. This means that businesses like salons are not legally required to allow them.
