Tip of the day!

Remember to regularly check your oil!!

If you happen to have a Kohler engine on your riding mower, be sure to check the oil before each use. While they are strong and dependable engines, the valve cover gasket will begin to age and let oil by. It's a slow leak and falls on the exhaust which burns off immediately, so it's hardly noticeable. That is until the engine becomes too low on oil and eventually locks up or the internals wear out and break prematurely.

Tip of the day!

Is your riding mower acting like it wants to turn over but can't quite make it???
A lot of people initially think they have a bad starter, and spend the money on a new one which can be costly. The worst part is after they replace the starter, it's doing the same thing! After time, the gap between the push-valves and lifters begin to increase causing extra back pressure in the combustion chamber which just becomes too much for the starting system to handle.
The best way to check for this is, is to remove the spark plug and try turning it over. If it spins freely, the valves just need to be re-adjusted. Instead of a $90 starter, all that was needed was a $10 gasket.
While there could be other reasons for the hard turn over as well, this is just what I recommend to check first.
