South Carolina's CPE rule has a twist most CPAs miss: 40 hours a year sounds simple, until you learn no more than 12 hours can count toward a single calendar day.

Add a license that lapses just 15 days after your February 1st renewal (triggering a $595 reinstatement, not just a late fee), 2 hours of ethics, and a carry-forward cap that shrinks for retired-status CPAs, and pacing matters more than the total.
