Live-edge slabs / Lumber / Wood art pieces Wallace Sawmill, LLC provides custom sawmilling throughout southeastern Wisconsin using a portable Woodmizer LT40 band saw to accommodate logs up to 24" in diameter and 21' long and a Woodmizer LX250 t

o accommodate those exceptionally large logs with a diameter of up to 54". The LT40 is equipped with hydraulic loading arms and a hydraulic log turner and a dingo and skid loader are available if needed to help move and manipulate logs and lumber. In addition to sawmilling, Wallace Sawmill, LLC offers a large selection of live-edge slabs from native hardwoods as well as dimensional lumber and unique wood pieces to satisfy the artist in anyone.

A little youth engagement for the soul...Wallace Sawmill welcomed Cub Scout Troop 98 a few weeks ago for a tour and a brief education on the many processes that are involved in taking urban wood from its raw form to usable wood for a build or other project. The visit included log turning, sawmill demo, surfacing demo, and real-life application of math skills including measuring and calculating slab volume in board feet. We enjoyed this experience with the youth and hope they did too!

A little youth engagement for the soul! Cub Scout Troop 98 came out to the Sawmill a few weeks ago for a tour and a brief education on the many processes involved in bringing urban wood from it's raw state as a log to wood ready for use in a build or other project. FUNGI are funky and frankly fantastic! Fungi contribute so many wonderful benefits like essential ecosystem decomposition and production of antibacterial medicines. Fungi are essential players in the making of breads, cheeses, and brews, and in its most natural state, fungi are a nutrient dense source of protein.

Fungi also contribute to aesthetic beauty in the world of wood. Spalting is directly attributable to fantastic Fungi that colonize wood and extract nutrients, leaving behind dark lines and patterns. These lines are boundaries drawn by different fungal colonies as they defend their territory.

Just flattened this beautiful silver maple slab this afternoon. This slab went from dull and unassuming to an awesome natural wonder right before our eyes. The swirly grain pattern is mesmerizing and definitely one-of-a-kind. Although silver maple is a soft maple, it is a hardwood and has a hardness rating similar to that of cherry.
