When we saw the Kings Point Management's page, we were pleased but we realized that, although it serves an important purpose, residents also need to be able to express concerns and share our point of view.

03/19/2021

Good afternoon Kings Point,

Gov. DeSantis says he will sign an executive order to lower the age eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine to 50 starting on Monday. We still have not had any commitment from the state or the county to host another “P.O.D.” here in Kings Point as the state is moving away from P.O.D. model as the vaccines are now being offered in more pharmacies and state-run sites. If you are eligible and interested in getting the vaccine, please do not wait for it to come to Kings Point as we have no guarantee that the vaccines will return.

About The Sun City Center Emergency Squad
Through dedication and determination, the Squad has provided emergency services to the community as a true example of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.” The Emergency Squad provides Basic Life Support (BLS) Emergency Medical Services to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays. These services are provided at no cost to the community as this operation is a non-profit, volunteer organization. While many non-profit programs spend thousands of dollars on administrative salaries, the Emergency Squad spends none. Everything they do is a community resource and everything is free.

Someone on Nextdoor asked a question about Sun City Center's history. Included in the response was a link to a very interesting summation written by John Bowker. It's a fascinating report on how the area was developed. I highly recommend reading it. You'll find it here: http://www.suncitydave.info/scc-scchistx.htm

Vesta Message:

Vaccine Thank You’s:

Now that Round 2 of the vaccine distribution has been completed, we would like to provide you some operational updates, but first we would like to share our appreciation for the extraordinary group effort.
We would like to thank our community leaders from the Federation and Master Boards, the management companies of First Service Residential and Vesta, generous donations from the COA, local agencies such as the Emergency Squad and CERT with guidance from Mike Bardell and Bob Preston and the army of volunteers for the hospitality suite, led by Cat Drinkard who all worked together to make a very seamless and successful event. Thank you to our residents who cooperated with our traffic challenges and clubhouse closures and a special thank you to all of you who graciously donated to our hospitality suite! Everyone came together for the greater good and we all feel that it is indeed a rare opportunity that comes along in life in which you can make a real difference and help so many people. For those of us at Vesta, it was a privilege and an honor to serve the Kings Point community in this capacity.

Vaccine Update:

Our initial estimation is that approximately 40 % of the community has been vaccinated by either our local “POD” or via other locations. We now are anxiously awaiting the Governors orders as to when the 55-64 year-old age group can receive vaccinations. In the meantime, although we are asked when we will fully open and be able to welcome guests again, we will need to remain cautious for a little while longer. As a reminder, if you have been vaccinated it does not mean that you cannot get Covid and pass it on to others. In addition, most onsite staff have not received vaccinations and any positive cases amongst staff could result in operational closures.

Palm Court Re-Opening!

However, as Covid-19 cases are declining in Florida and a healthy percentage of King Point have now obtained the vaccine we do have plans underway to re-open indoor dining at Palm Court. All F&B operations at the South Club will
re-open Friday, March 12th, 2021 with all safety protocols remaining in place.
Special menu & some live entertainment for St Patrick’s Day week.
Trivia will return every Wednesday & Saturday starting April 7th, 2021. Participation will be capped @ 50 with social distancing and safety protocols in place.
Karaoke will return on Thursdays, starting April 8th. Participation capped @ 50 with social distance and safety protocols in place.
Hours of Operation:
Palm Court Café
Tues-Sun 11am-8pm
Palm Court Bar
Tues-Sun 11am-9pm
Outdoor Pool Patio F&B
Fri, Sat, Sun 12pm-6pm
Monday F&B will remain closed.

For further information on F&B services, please reach out to South Club General Manager Andrew Kail at [email protected].

With the past cool spell and changes in restrictions, I've ignored the current status of the pool and Palm Court restaurant. Could someone tell me if the pool is open without restrictions? And how about Palm Court's eat in area? I feel fairly safe because I've had the two shots. I know I still need to be careful, but I want to be up-to-date on what's available.

If you come 5-30 minutes after the top of the hour, you will not lose your opportunity, but you may reduce your wait in line!

3. Donations: We have received feedback from our residents on “how can I assist?” We are excited that we will be hosting a “Hospitality Room” for our Healthcare workers, Emergency Squad members, National Guard, and other staff. We are taking donations of bottled water, canned soda, and most importantly cash donations/gift cards to places like Dunkin Donuts, Publix, or Walmart to purchase breakfast and lunch for the workers. Even small contributions will help! Please contact [email protected] for more information.

4. Restrooms will be available in the Main Clubhouse.

5. Fitness & Aerobic Classes: If you have been using the phone reservation line to reserve fitness center or aerobics classes, there is a change. During the vaccine period, please call 813-387-3458 instead from 8am-12pm during the week of Feb 2 - 5th.

A Message from HCSO Community Resource Officer Deputy Merry

Currently there are several scams victimizing our residents. The most predominant are the "grandparent scam", at home testing fraud, the romance scam, and stimulus grant money scam. Remember gift cards are NOT a legitimate payment method, no matter what they tell you. And if it sounds too good to be true or sounds fishy, IT IS!

1. Stimulus Fraud: If you receive a phone call about the stimulus checks it is an attempt to get your bank account information. It begins by saying they are the Treasury and they need to direct deposit the money.

2. At Home testing: There are people going door to door claiming to be with Homeland Security and offering at-home testing. This is a Medicare scam and the cons charge Medicare thousands of dollars for non-existing Medicare services.

3. Grandparents scam: The person claiming to be your grandchild or law enforcement holding your grandchild asks you to send money immediately and provides details on how — for example, via prepaid cards or to a particular Western Union office. The call comes late at night. Scammers figure an older person may get confused more easily if they call then, the National Consumers League warns.

4. Romance scam:
These scammers find their victims on social media sites, such as FaceBook, Instagram, Plenty of Fish, Meet me.com, just to name a few. They build trust and create the illusion of an actual relationship by chatting several times a day and crafting their stories and answers based on information obtained from the victim themselves. Then comes the request for money.
The scammers often say they: Work on an oil rig, are military, or are a doctor with an international organization
They ask for money to: Pay for a plane ticket or other travel expenses, Pay for surgery or other medical expenses, Pay customs fees to retrieve something, Pay off gambling debts, Pay for a visa or other official travel documents.

The scammers will ask for the money to be loaded onto gift cards, deposited into mysterious bank accounts, and purchase bitcoin.
NEVER send money or gifts to someone you have not met in person.
