🇺🇸 Happy Independence Day!

Today, I’m celebrating from my favorite place — the quiet peace of the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Surrounded by trees, water, and a slower pace, I’m taking my own advice: step back, breathe, and recharge.

Freedom shows up in many forms. For me, it’s the ability to create a life and business that reflect my values. It’s choosing rest when I need it. It’s helping others find clarity in the chaos — so they, too, can enjoy more of what matters.

Whether you’re working, relaxing, or somewhere in between today, I hope you feel a little freedom in your own way.

Do I get dressed up every day, even though I work from home?

Define “dressed up.”
Because technically, yes—I am always wearing pants.

Some days it's full business with a blazer.
Other days, it's a hoodie or what I like to call “Zoom-neutral” attire (presentable from the waist up, party of comfort below).

And honestly… does it matter and to whom?

It matters to me!

Dressing for work is my power move.
It signals to my brain, “Let’s do this.”
It helps shift the energy, especially when my “commute” is from the bed to the coffee maker to my office.
However, I must admit, some of my most productive, strategic, get-things-DONE days happen in leggings, no make-up, no jewelry (if you know me, you know ;-), and messy hair.

So I say —do what works for you and what brings you respect from your clients.

You’re the boss of your business.
You just also happen to be the boss of your wardrobe. Clients will work with "you" and not your latest outfit.

The first day of summer always makes me pause.

It reminds me to slow down, soak up the sun, and appreciate the simple things — walks with my dogs, meals on the patio, and time with people I love. But it also reminds me how quickly the season slips by if I’m not intentional.

Before you know it, summer is over. So this year, I’m making it a point to be present, enjoy the little things, and make space for what really matters.

There’s a club no one signs up for, but far too many of us belong to. I'm raising my hand for the first time to confirm my membership.

It’s the club of having a close family member struggling with addiction. I've been in this club for almost 20 years, and it has not gotten any easier.

It comes with a permanent layer of stress—one that sits just under the surface, even on the good days. It means your phone ringing at the wrong time can spike your heart rate. It means always bracing for the next call, the next chaos, the next disappointment.

I don’t talk about it often, or really ever, out of respect for their privacy. It has not been my story to share. But I live it, it impacts me, and I know I’m not alone.

What I’ve learned is this:
Living with this kind of chronic emotional weight shapes you.

It has made me waaaay more empathetic.
More calm under pressure.
More attuned to what might be happening in others' lives.
More focused on what really matters.

In my work, I bring that same grounded presence to the clients and teams I serve. I don’t rattle easily. I listen closely. I move forward—even when the path is ugly or not clear—because I’ve lived with uncertainty and still found ways to keep going.

If you’re part of this invisible club too, I see you. You don't have to identify yourself, but I understand.

June 6th marks something big for me!

This morning, I attended my last oncology appointment after five years of monitoring post-chemo for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

If you’ve ever faced cancer, you know there’s no such thing as going back to “before.” There’s only “after”—and learning how to live with what that means. I was one of the ones going through chemo when hospitals were overwhelmed with COVID. My treatment was from February to June 2020. Remember that time? Ugh.

For me, it’s meant facing mortality in a way that stripped everything down to what mattered most. It meant learning to lead and live differently, with more purpose and more grace—for myself and others. Having the courage to do what I want like running my own business.

It also meant watching my straight hair fall out… and come back curly. And grey. Really grey. Which now needs regular maintenance—something I never thought I’d be grateful for. But here I am. Every root touch-up feels like a strange little celebration of still being here.

Normalcy isn't something I take for granted.

Here’s to final appointments, cancer in the rear view, and this beautiful “after.”
