Before you get the official “welcome to the family” seal of approval, a little extra bonding time with the in-laws-to-be is in order. Whether they’re the adventurous type, more into art or simply enjoy the art of relaxation, there are a variety of places around Oregon where you can connect and celebrate your upcoming union.

Take a page from a royal playbook and sit down for high tea at Abigail Hall | A Historic Portland Cocktail Bar inside downtown Portland’s Woodlark Hotel. The cozy, floral-adorned cocktail bar serves up a classic high tea service every Saturday and Sunday, featuring Smith Teamaker teas steeped tableside in vintage teacups alongside a tower of sweet and savory goodies.

For an outing of the self-care kind, treat your soon-to-be father-in-law to a haircut and a hot shave at Troublemaker Barbers Portland Barbershop in Portland’s Slabtown. Unwind, then share a pint over a game of billiards in its sleek and stylish surroundings.

In the Mount Hood National Forest, plenty of family bonding activities await—no matter the season. Mt. Hood Outfitters provides guided, three-hour snowshoe tours— including snowshoe and pole rentals—during which you can revel in the majestic snowy landscape, spy native birds and learn a little local history.

In summer, rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) and glide along Trillium Lake. Or, if you prefer to bond over an unforgettable shared expedition, the Adventure Park at Mt. Hood Skibowl offers an 800-foot zip line that will have you and the in-laws flying—securely harnessed, of course—high above the trees. If it’s an art-filled experience you’re after, head to the Lincoln City Glass Center and book your spot to create your own blown glass art under the watchful eye of an expert glassblower. After your masterpieces cool overnight, you and your new in-laws will have cherished keepsakes to commemorate time well spent together

Scott met Lindsey almost immediately upon moving to Oregon, and after six months of working together, they followed their hearts and decided to date.

For their wedding, the pair chose to celebrate their love and shared faith at Chateau de Harpe, an elegant, French-inspired venue in West Linn that served as a nod to the groom’s childhood spent abroad. Wearing a striking strapless ballgown, Lindsey joined Scott at the altar beneath a bright blue sky for their emotional ceremony, during which the couple and their parents took Communion in front of their guests—an intimate moment of devotion that became a highlight of their day.

An abundance of pillowy-soft peonies, roses and carnations, in shades of ivory and barely-there blush, complemented the estate’s gorgeous greenery. The tented reception, illuminated with sparkling string lights and held in the rustic courtyard, was the perfect finishing touch. Guests savored delicious Italian gelato and spent the evening dancing in the September breeze.

From the outset, Allie and Max had a clear vision for their wedding: a dark, romantic and intimate fall event, complete with a disco-style party for 230 of their closest friends and family. And did they ever deliver. The couple chose Castaway, a historic warehouse venue in Northwest Portland, where their unexpected color palette of chartreuse, burgundy, olive and deep mauve stood out against the space’s old-growth beams and concrete floors.

Florals were lush and organic in shape and texture, with pedestal arrangements framing the ceremony and a dramatic installation hanging overhead. Bridesmaids carried simple, single-stem calla lilies tied with silk ribbon.

Above the dance floor, greenery punctuated with disco balls set the tone for the groovy party to come. (The bride has a fondness for the faceted, mirrored spheres, so much so that she has a disco ball tattoo.) Parked inside was “DiscoBug,” a far-out Volkswagen Beetle covered in thousands of hand-glued mirrored tiles by Eagle Creek–based artist Tyler FuQua. The art piece mimicked Allie’s shimmering reception dress, which she described as “its own disco ball.”

The clean modern lines and panoramic views of Amaterra—the private winery, vineyard and social club within Portland’s West Hills—played host to this romantic celebration, where a rich palette of cherry, burgundy, plum and soft lilac was layered with texture to evoke a sophisticated vibe.

At reception tables, more romantic red. Tonal linens, etched glassware and tailored paper goods strike a balance between restraint and intricacy, allowing the florals to take the lead without overwhelming the setting. Additional details deepen the narrative, from the artful stationery suite that includes subtle vineyard motifs to the sculptural cake dressed in florals and fresh fruit.

It was a shared love for food and wine that first brought Jonathan and Robbie together. The pair has spent the last 15 years building a life, including celebrating that love for wine culture and community as co-owners of the beloved West Linn haunt, Taste Wine Cafe, and becoming members at multiple local wineries.  So when it came time for them to tie the knot, the couple opted for the very first place they ever joined: Sunshine Mill Winery in The Dalles.

On a sunny, late-September day, Jonathan and Robbie exchanged vows before their nearest and dearest and raised a curated glass or two amid the winery’s eclectic setting and incredible views of the Columbia River Gorge. Elegant floral arrangements—artfully designed and styled by Robbie—featured yellow roses, white daisies and chamomile, paired with soft greenery and sprigs of eucalyptus.

At each table, guests were treated to bottles of wine and a custom wine-and-food pairing list that Jonathan and Robbie created. The perfect parting gifts? A wine tumbler for each guest, inscribed with the grooms’ names and a cheeky jab: “It’s about time.”
