Planning some fun at home this summer? Make sure your backyard is safe for all your favorite activities by using this summer safety checklist.

Pool safety
⁃ Never leave children unattended
⁃ Kids should never be alone in or near a pool (even if they know how to swim).
⁃ Teach children to swim
⁃ Sign your kids up for swimming lessons if you haven’t
⁃ Learn emergency skills
⁃ Young children should learn when to get help. Older children and adults should learn CPR and first aid.
⁃ Buy pool safety equipment
⁃ Keep a first-aid kit, ring buoys and reaching poles nearby. Easy access to these items could be lifesaving.
⁃ Install a safety fence
⁃ Make sure your pool safety fence covers all pool sides and has self-closing gates. Also, install locks and alarms on doors with pool access.
⁃ Keep everyone in the know. Create and post safety rules and enforce them.

Trampoline safety
⁃ Add safety features
⁃ Make sure your trampoline has padding and netting. An enclosed trampoline can help prevent falls.
⁃ Maintain your trampoline. Inspect your trampoline regularly for missing pads, tears, exposed springs and other issues that could cause injury.
⁃ Enforce safety rules. Only one jumper at a time to reduce risk of injury.

Playground safety
⁃ Inspect your playground equipment regularly
⁃ Look out for protruding bolts, open hooks, broken ropes or rusted chains that could cause injuries. Replace equipment as needed.
⁃ Create a safe landing
⁃ Invest in soft-landing material like rubber tire chips or mulch to reduce or prevent injuries.
⁃ Teach playground rules
Having kids follow simple rules can contribute to playground safety and help avoid injuries.
⁃ Supervise young children at play
⁃ Keep a close eye on kids to reduce injuries and ensure your backyard safety expectations.

Review your home liability insurance limits
Even if you follow all these tips, accidents happen. Keep your liability insurance coverage updated (and consider adding an umbrella liability policy). If you add a pool, trampoline or playground to your yard, meet with your insurance agent to see if you need to increase your home liability coverage. Stay safe and have fun this summer!

Talking to your insurance agent once a year can help you prepare for major life events and unexpected curveballs. Here’s what to discuss and why it’s important to meet with your agent annually.

❔ What should I discuss with my insurance agent?
When life changes, so do your priorities. In an annual review, talk to your agent about changes in your life, as well as your plans and priorities, to ensure you're protected.

❔ Are there other times I should contact my insurance agent?
Yes! Here are other times when giving your agent a call is worth the time.

1️⃣ Your policy is up for renewal.
Take time to evaluate your needs and your coverage since your last renewal to ensure you’re protected.

2️⃣ You’ve made major lifestyle changes.
Got married, quit smoking or had a baby? These changes can impact your insurance coverage needs.

3️⃣ You bought or received valuable items.
Receiving gifts such as jewelry or buying anything new for your home, like TVs or even artwork, means you might need additional personal property protection.

4️⃣ You’ve updated your home.
Made home or property improvements such as replacing the roof or installing an alarm system? Depending on the upgrade, you may qualify for a home insurance discount.

As an insurance agent, I’m committed to providing you with the best solutions for your needs, so you can experience all that life has to offer.

Like lots of decisions in life, you have options to consider. The same is true when choosing the right life insurance. So, if you don’t know where to start, we can help!

Here are some factors to consider when choosing between the different types of life insurance:
🟩 Length of coverage: Do you want a lifetime policy (permanent) or one that lasts for a set number of years (term)?

🟩 Cost of premiums: Are you looking for a low monthly payment (term) or can you swing a bit more (permanent)?

🟩 Option for cash value: Do you want your life insurance policy to build cash value over time (permanent)?

Need a little more help understanding the difference between term & permanent life insurance? Think of them this way:
🟩 Term life insurance is like renting: you’re covered for a set time and have the option to renew.
🟩 Permanent life insurance is like owning a home: as long as you pay your mortgage, it’s yours, and you can build equity over time

Let’s chat to discuss more about the different types of life insurance.

Don’t wait until you’re under a severe weather alert to gather supplies and make a safety plan. Start preparing today with these tips.
✔️ Have an emergency plan.
• Decide what your family will do if severe weather is headed your way.
• If you had to evacuate, where would you go? Identify family members or friends who live far enough away for you to get beyond the path of a hurricane, wildfire, or other natural disaster. Tell them you’d like to include them in your emergency evacuation plan and make sure they’re willing to take you in.
• If you have young children, walk through your plan with them, including how they should take shelter in your home.

✔️ Build an emergency preparedness kit. Put together a supply of essentials and safety items in an emergency kit.
Start with the basics:
• Three-to-five-days' supply of bottled water and nonperishable food
• Battery-operated flashlight
• Battery-operated radio and weather radio
• A first-aid kit
• Cell phone charger or battery source for your phone
• Personal hygiene items
• Blankets

✔️ Gather important personal information.
• Make sure you have phone numbers of neighbors, family, friends and utility companies in your phone.
• Keep copies of your insurance and property information in your emergency kit. Many insurers, like us, make this information available through their app. If you’re a client, download our COUNTRY Financial mobile app so these documents are easily accessible.
• Check to see if your healthcare provider offers online resources to store your medical information so it’s easy to access from your phone.
• Keep critical documents, like birth certificates, in a safe or another location you can get to if your home is damaged or destroyed.

✔️ Make sure your home and possessions are covered.
• Create a home inventory with your phone. Save it to the cloud and email a copy to your insurance agent.
• Meet with your insurance agent yearly to review your home insurance policy.
• Check your emergency fund to make sure there’s enough to cover your insurance deductible in case you experience major damage to your home.

We put together some information to help you understand the basics of a homeowners policy so you’re better prepared when you need to purchase or switch insurance providers. This information is not specific to COUNTRY Financial and is meant to provide a general overview.

◾ What is home insurance?
Home insurance is protection for your home and possessions. You pay your home insurer a premium and in exchange, they agree to pay for the cost to repair or rebuild your home if it’s damaged or destroyed by a covered event (these are outlined in your policy).
____

◾ What does home insurance cover?
Home insurance provides protection against damage caused by sudden and accidental incidents. A standard home insurance policy will usually include three main types of protection:
____

◾ Dwelling Coverage
Designed to repair or rebuild your main home structure, dwelling coverage is the main protection provided by home insurance.
____

◾ Personal Property Coverage
Personal Property Coverage allows you to replace items such as electronics, furniture, clothing and other belongings.
____

◾ Liability Coverage
Liability Coverage provides financial protection for you if someone is injured on your property or a member of your household causes damage to someone else’s property. Umbrella insurance is added liability coverage that goes beyond the limits of your existing car and home insurance.
____

◾ What is a covered loss?
Covered losses are events, sometimes called perils, covered by homeowners insurance. Talk to your insurance agent about the covered losses contained in your specific home policy.
____

◾ How much is home insurance?
Factors affecting the cost of home insurance include: Location, age, size and condition of your home
____

◾ How can I be sure I’m covered for a home insurance claim?
You choose how your property will be valued if you have a claim, and that affects the amount of coverage you have to rebuild. While it may vary by home insurer the levels of protection are actual cash value and replacement cost.

• Will your current liability limits protect your assets in a lawsuit?
• How are your customers protected against credit card fraud?
• Do you have coverage that protects your customers' property when it's in your care?
• Do your subcontractors have certificates of insurance listing you as an additional insured?
• When was the last time you took a tool and materials inventory? Do you have proper coverage for those items?
• Do you need to protect your business for electronic data breaches?
