Functional Workout! My 2 FREE Books explain all my methods, not just 1 but 2 FREE books. Link in bio. Hard copies of my books available on Amazon.

Barefoot shoes VIVOBAREFOOT code DRJOEL. These shoes are scientifically shown to improve muscle function, joint health, and leg activation.

One of my recent workouts where I worked oblique slings, strength, hypertrophy, balance, stability, & alignment.

The 8 Exercises.

1.Offset Oblique Slings Overhead Press. This was one of the most challenging overhead presses I’ve ever performed as the level of stability, full body tension, motor control, & strength required from head to toe was insane. If form is not perfect then these are impossible.

2. Knee Raise Med Ball Adduction Weighted Chinups. Crush core, hips, lats, & adductors.

3. Planking Renegade Rows Underhand. Underhand grip helps pack & centrate shoulder joint for more lat activation.

4. Reeves Trap Bar High Pulls (squat pattern). Great full body explosive drill also crushes traps & upper back. I always try to do at least one explosive exercise each workout.

5. Leg Raise Incline Barbell Bench Reverse Bands. Legs up forces core & lats to work overtime to find the proper groove for pressing mechanics.

6. Single Leg Goblet Squats on Half Roller. I always try to do at least one single leg exercise each workout. This was a new one for me that was surprisingly brutal as it requires perfect alignment & form.

7. Split Squat Lunge on Med Ball with Dumbbell Pinching Lateral Raises. Full body stability + grip, shoulders, feet, & hips.

8. Reeves Trap Bar RDL’s. Great posterior chain drill.

We use 90 degree eccentric isometrics as this maximizes motor unit recruitment, length tension relationship, anatomical leverage, muscle activation & much more. That means more muscle growth, strength, & joint health. Thousands of folks around the world are switching to the 90 deg EI method & reporting near miraculous benefits including healing from injuries that no other method could resolve. God gets all the glory.

The pullover machine has more history & ingenious design behind it then perhaps any other piece of variable resistance equipment in the fitness industry.

It was initially developed by legend exercise scientist & inventor Arthur Jones in the early 1970’s & released through his state-of-the-art Nautilus strength training equipment company. His ideology behind this piece was that most bodybuilders & athletes when doing pullups & pulldowns tend to have their biceps, arms, & grip give out/fail before their larger lat muscles.

By bypassing the grip & biceps this allows the lifter to overcome this issue via direct stimulation to the upper back & lats. Simply, instead of using the smaller muscles of the grip, forearms, & biceps (which have the tendency to fatigue quickly) to indirectly target the lats, the lifter can target these larger muscles head on by minimizing the role of the smaller muscles & directly target the upper back.

Additionally, the motion of the pullover anatomically matches the nature & function of the lats while blasting the chest, triceps, core, & shoulders with constant tension. It’s also incredible joint friendly. It’s for this reason the pullover machine was considered the “Upper Body Squat” by Jones & many bodybuilders. This machine was also semi-responsible for building some of the most muscular physiques ever to grace the bodybuilding stage including Mike Mentzer and Dorian Yates.

Most gyms don’t have these but if you’re fortunate enough to encounter one I highly recommend using it as they pulverize every muscle in the upper body & core. Read more in article copy paste https://www.advancedhumanperformance.com/blog/sling-shot-rows-back-and-lats.

Stop 🛑 Rotating Your Feet Out! My 2 Free Books explain all my methods, link bio. Hard copies on Amazon.

Our thoughts & prayers to this individual & anyone who’s delt with similar injuries. These types of injuries & most musculoskeletal injuries are largely preventable simply by adhering to proper body mechanics, technique, alignment, posture, & range of motion.

1.A straight foot/ankle joint is considered neutral in biomechanics.

2. Rotating the feet out is a common weightlifting & powerlifting practice as it’s more conducive for collapsing at the bottom of a squat thereby helping the lifters reach excessive depth (past 90) to satisfy man-made rules & judging criteria of their sport. It has nothing to do with optimal biomechanics.

3. When the toes rotate out it creates energy leaks, lack of joint centration (poor kinematics), & mismatched force vectors (flawed kinetics) throughout the kinetic chain, all of which not only compromise force & power production but greatly increase risk of injury & joint degradation. Straight foot mechanics does the opposite as it optimizes all these.

4. Many powerlifters & weightlifters wreck their natural lower body mechanics because their feet & hips have spent so much time in excessive external rotation. This becomes their go-to movement strategy for any lower body movement including walking, running, & overall gait mechanics.

5. Over time this can lead to a variety of lower body impairments & pain-related issues not to mention extreme ruptures & tears.

6. Straight feet is something that should be used on most exercises including squats & deadlifts regardless of individual differences in anthropometrics.

7. What’s crazy is the Bible also confirms what we see in science. The Bible & science always point back to each other.

“Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb that is impaired may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.” (Hebrews 12:12-13). (many versions say straight steps).

Traditional Training = Injuries. My 2 FREE books explain!

Labor Day sale 26% off all programs code🤑 LABOR26.

Research shows injury prevalence from traditional strength training incredibly high. This further highlights the unhealthy nature of these activities. But it has nothing to do with the exercises. It has everything to do with ex*****on. When you train significantly below 90 deg joint angles you will be consistently injured.

In contrast training to 90 degree joint angles even with heavy loads is incredibly therapeutic & provides healing & restoration while helping heal injuries no other modality could resolve. 90 deg training also maximizes muscle growth & strength.

Pubmed doi: 10.1177/2325967118771016.

12 facts about traditional weight training.

1. 70% of powerlifters were were currently injured.

2. 87% had experienced an injury within past 12 months.

3.The lumbopelvic region, shoulder, & hip were most commonly injured sites

4.Injuries occur during training suggesting training itself was the cause.

5.More than half of powerlifters reported injuries in at least 2 different body regions during that time period.

6.The squat produced highest incidence of injury (43%) even when compared to the bench press (27%) & deadlift (31%).

7.Only 5% of injuries were related to lifting technique.

8.This may suggest current definitions of proper lifting technique (ie. squat below parallel) are flawed given participants were simply following current mandates of what’s considered “proper form”.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29785405/.

9.In weightlifting, low back pain is considered one of the most common complaints 40.8% prevalence. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32789068/ .

10. Of 93 patients, back pain was found in 43 patients A total of 23 cases required surgery (25%).

11. All the participants (100%) reported pain to be initiated during or after weight training.

12. Other studies show 43.3% of powerlifters complain of problems during workouts. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21590644/ .

Here’s NPC masters physique champion Eric McIntyre on a full body workout double landmine workout where we emphasized a bit more upper body. But each exercise the goal was perfect posture, alignment, & natural range of motion on each movement which is often around 90 deg joint angles. This maximizes joint & tissue health as well as injury prevention & recovery from injuries. If you want to become pain-free start training like this.

These exercises are great not just for motor control but ensuring both sides are working equally & symmetrically. Due to the rotary motion of the landmine & the bars moving on an axis of rotation the bars are quite unstable if you lose form or use excessive momentum. Therefore, these drills are great for cleaning up form & teaching the person to maintain perfect control & technique. Some of them also provide a unique stimulus that’s difficult to replicate with other loading modalities including dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, & cables.

The 10 Double Landmine Drills.

1.Angled Incline Press.

2. Lateral Raises.

3. Bear Crawl Chest Fly.

4. Front Squat with Heels Up.

Here’s college football athlete Ryan Stephens on a full body workout where we used an underhand grip on all the exercises. But why do this? Why perform presses, pulls, squats, hinges, and more with and underhand or supinated grip?

7 Reasons to Use Underhand Grip (periodically in workouts).

1.Helps to externally rotate the shoulders into a more packed & stable position.

2. Cues more upper back and lat activation.

3. Works different aspect of wrist, grip, and hand strength.

4. Helps create better bar path (keeping the bar closer to the body).

5. Easier on the shoulder joint

6. Great for Posture.

7. Tends to be more spine friendly.

The 8 Exercise for this workout.

Here’s football athlete JT Byrne staying ready for whichever NFL team calls upon him. The key is he’s staying ready & maximizing his training & physiological function.

Here’s yesterday’s workout.

Note: Rollers from Flexmovement (code DRJOEL).

1.Barbell Squats (Anti-Rolling protocol). These require very high levels of motor control as this variation exposes & addresses compensation patterns, instability, asymmetries, muscle dysfunction, energy leaks, and misalignment throughout the lower body. The goal is to load the leg on the pad while preventing the leg on the roller from rolling. If this seems dangerous to you it probably is because your motor control stinks. Fix your muscle dysfunction and watch these seemingly impossible or highly difficult movements become feasible & safe for you. It’s all about your levels of muscle function. Stop making excuses for why you can’t do something and fix your compensation patterns. The way to do this is train with 90 degree eccentric isometrics.
