February is Black History Month. As a Black Woman owned company, we find it vital to uplift and educate our consumers.
Every year, ASALH, Association of the Study of African American Life and History, decides on a new Black History Theme. This year, the theme is Black Resistance. What does it mean to resist? For many many years, Black people have resisted historic and ongoing oppression. Oppression is defined as prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control. The resistance of oppression can be very emotionally, physically, and mentally taxing.
This month, we, at TW Consulting, challenge our Black consumers to take time to disconnect and breathe. We are resisting the notion that we must always "be strong" and that therapy is not for us. We resist the mental constraints that keep us bound and fearful of healing.
ASLAHs' call to everyone is to study the history of Black Americans' responses to establish safe spaces, where Black life can be sustained, fortified, and respected.
