Keep your home and family safe by following these essential power‑outage tips.

Unplug electronics to protect them from surges, keep fridge and freezer doors closed to preserve food, and always use generators outdoors and at least 20 feet away from your home.

Stay safe, stay prepared, and look out for your neighbors during severe weather.

Report outages immediately using your local utility contacts listed at Ready NC:

A sneak-peek at some of the items for sale at our yard sale October 3, 2026, 9 am - 1 pm. There's lots more besides this, and across the street the Friends of Hyde County's Courthouse is holding their own yard sale - same date, same times! Two big sales in one convenient location on Oyster Creek Road (NC45).

Many thanks to everyone who has already donated items for our Yard Sale coming up on October 3 (9am-1pm)! The Chief has extended the "no later than" date to tomorrow, October 1. Call him at 252-542-0901 if you have things to donate. And tell your friends and neighbors to come out to the sale on Saturday!
