As a Social Media Manager and VA, I honestly spend every day working in Canva. It is 100% my most used creative tool. I create all client content, personal content and business work in Canva.

If there is one thing I learned, it is to make things as simple as you can. My first tip for Canva is to not only create and save your own Brand Kit, but also save your client’s brand kits. Brand Kits are a key way to create your presence.

By saving all your kits, it will allow you to make any template and quickly change the style to mirror the Brand Kit you are working with. It creates consistency in your work and makes things so much easier.

As a business owner, I always look for any opportunity I can for personal growth. One of the easiest ways to do that for me is to find a good book. There is one book that I keep coming back to time and time again…when I need to refocus, to be inspired or to find my next step.

That book for me is Own Your Everyday by Jordan Dooley.

I can still remember the first time I read it. I vividly remember reading one of the first chapters and Jordan’s words hitting so close to home that I was crying. I felt like this book got me….knew where I was and what I needed to hear.

The book dives into so many topics like imposter syndrome, overcoming perfectionism, focusing on what you truly want and how to get out of your own way and make it happen.

It’s the first book I always recommend whens someone asks and it is the only book I have read more than twice. Go grab a copy of your own and dive in…let it help you get started!

Every small business owner started with a dream and a Why. I know I have given some insight into my reason previously, but wanted to share the one that keeps pushing me everyday to continue my work, build my business and grow my clientele.

It is my growing family. With an almost one year old at home and twins due in the next few weeks, I am so grateful for the decision I made to start my VA business. I get to be present throughout the day while fitting my work into the little spaces between playtime, dinnertime and naptime.

I couldn’t imagine any other option for our family. I have flexibility, consistency in work, and amazing clients. I can take on more work if I want to or stay consistent right now. It is all up to me and I love that!

To be successful as a Virtual Assistant, I needed to find a system to keep me organized. I wanted a place where everything is connected. I quickly fell in love with G Suite and everything has to offer.

Everything in one place keeps me on target for goals and deadlines. It allows me to move forward with my process quickly. When talking to a potential client, I can give realistic expectations on follow-up.

I use G Suite to:
🔹manage my calendar and to-do list
🔹create and share all documents and sheets
🔹make calls through
🔹follow up on client comments for work
🔹collaborate on work

My only advice is that there are so many programs and systems out there. You just need to find what works best for you. Keep your side of the business simple..that way you can take on multiple projects for your clients and stay on track!

I believe this now, more than ever. You can have a dream and plan and plan to make that dream come true. However, if you do not put in the work and effort to make that dream come true....that's where it will stay, a dream.

I dreamt of the day when I would have children and what my life would like with them. I wanted to be home with them.

My business allows me to do that. I make my own schedule and fit it around our new life. But this didn't happen overnight. I had to work hard and follows the plans I made to make this dream a reality. It took persistence and hard work to finally feel like I was at a place where I could live the life I dreamt of years ago.

My reasons may be completely different from other small biz owners, but these reasons are what push me everyday to grow and succeed and build the business of my dreams.

Maybe it was one of the easiest thing for you to figure out…your passion. You knew what it was from an early age.

I, however, did. My passion constantly changed. I didn’t have a specific plan or idea for what I wanted to be when I grew up.

The minute my son was placed in my arms, I knew what I was meant to be…a mother.

I started my business to allow me to be as present as I could for him and his future siblings.

I get to work on projects and tasks that I enjoy and that allow me to be creative and fit my work into my day. It’s hard work and takes discipline to stick to my schedule but I’m happy to do it and to have found work that I am passionate about.

Hiring a VA to support your business can be essential for growth.
