Covid19: What the Pandemic has Created
Amidst all the uncertainty of Covid19, I feel the need to express the “other” things that this global Pandemic has created. On Saturday, I received a call from my Brother, in a panic that his grandchildren were in a terrible crash. I soon found that three of my family members, a father, and his two young daughters rear-ended a truck in a construction zone. His phone was in his pocket at the time of the collision, so he was not using his phone. The wreck was so intense that I am told the first responders are on leave after this event as it was so tragic. I could list the reasons, but it is not important- what is important is that we all need to get our heads in the game and realize we are not invincible, that our actions have consequences. Have you actually observed the drivers on the road since this pandemic? It is a clear indicator of the time in history that we are living in-RIGHT NOW.
Americans are in a place that nobody has experienced in our lives. Isolation, seeing nothing but more bad news…unemployment and long lines with social distancing-A LOT of uncommon, uncertain, stressful, and trying thoughts are going through all Americans. More and more we are using technology to pass time, order groceries, watching the world seem to burn to the ground.
Now some people are going to work, but one thing will be seen apparent- all of these things going on, without focus will lead to injury and death of epic proportions. EXCESSIVE SPEED, aggressive driving, swerving several lanes at the last second to make an exit… literally, people are not thinking clearly. Seriously, the insanity on the roads that I believe is derived from this pandemic… it is truly dangerous, yet most do not even identify the behavior of what they are doing while driving. It is important to note that as a society we must stop losing focus, at the very least when driving. We continue to lose as many people every year as we did in all of Vietnam, yet we don’t think twice about our actions, risk, and dangers when we drive. It is a privilege to drive, yet we take it for granted, and when it is combined with all the uncertainty of what is going on in the world… well, you are more likely to be injured or perish going to the store than you ever will with Corona Virus.
Please, PLEASE talk with your family. Get conscious in an effort to think about what you are doing. Remind your loved ones to be safe, and make sure you get in their head… Wear your seatbelt, drive with etiquette, and get your head on straight when driving every day, because if you don’t, it can END you or someone you love.
Lastly, to all the First Responders, Law Enforcement, and Medical folks out there, THANK YOU- without your passion to help others, this world would look much, MUCH worse. If anyone sees these folks, please thank them and let them know that you appreciate them, because it is a matter of when they will be the ones helping assist you.
