Grow Your Good is based in what is now called Western North Carolina, land that was and is still home to the Cherokee people.

We've had the honor of working with Cherokee-led organizations and Cherokee individuals over this past year and have learned a lot about their unique culture and history. There is a wealth of knowledge we can learn from Indigenous cultures about building community and fostering a symbiotic relationship with our environment if we choose to learn.

This Native American Heritage Day, we encourage everyone to find and to learn from and instead of buying into capitalist crap, find and to support!

And while we don't want it to be the focus of our post, as non-Indigenous individuals, we would be remiss if we didn't mention the centuries of colonization and brutality that Indigenous people endured in what we now called America, and how we as white individuals continue to benefit from this legacy. From the depleted land we live on to the lower life expectancy of Native Americans, this history of colonization continues to this day and is worth speaking out about.

✨13,556✨ people came out in Haywood County to cast their vote for Tausha Forney for Haywood County Commissioner '24

Did we win it? I mean like technically no. BUT did we get to start some community momentum that will last long after Election Day? We like to think so!

If there’s anything we’ve learned in this last year, it’s that community really is at the heart and center of what it takes for all of us get free and survive these times that don’t look like they are settling down anytime soon.

One thing we are not doing around here is relying on the results of electoral politics for our sense of pride. Our girl Tausha and the community who rallied around her ran an uphill race and got 13,000+ people to believe in our dream. And we are proud as hell of that! 🔥🔥

Thank you Tausha for showing us what leadership and community looks like. And thank you for letting us be a part of your journey. We are SO grateful to be in community with you. ❤️

🗳 Thur. 10/17 through Sat. 11/2 is early voting in North Carolina 🗳

During early voting, you can:
✔️ vote during your local polling place's posted hours
✔️ register to vote and cast your vote on the same day
✔️ update outdated voter registration information

🪪DON'T FORGET that a valid ID will be required for voting in this election

IF YOU LOST YOUR PHOTO ID DUE TO HURRICANE HELENE, you have three options:

1) Fill out a Photo ID Exception Form at your voting site or send the form back with your absentee ballot. (A blank Exception Form will arrive with your absentee packet.) Check the box for “Exception 3: Victim of a Natural Disaster.” Make sure to sign the form.

2) Go to your county board of elections office. If you are a registered voter, they can take your photo and print an acceptable ID on the spot.

3) Get a Free Voter Photo ID. Get a free ID from an NCDMV office in your area

🔗 Visit www.ncsbe.gov for more information on early voting, voting after Helene, or to access the North Carolina Early Voter Polling Place Lookup

🙏We've got a whole heap of local elections on the ballot this year so please be sure to do your research before you hit the ballot box.

Voting in local elections is an effective way to care for our communities so y'all get out there and vote!

The past few weeks have been surreal, to say the least. As we, our clients, and our communities have navigated this major disruption to our lives and work, we’ve been trying to figure out how we can grow some good even now.

✨ Grow Your Good will be offering pay-what-you-can grant services to organizations directly impacted by Hurricane Helene or providing relief response.
✨ There are already a number of relief response grant applications available in (check the link in our bio for Dogwood’s list of current opportunities) and many of them are designed for easy applying.
✨ However, we know that the folks who need it the most are busier than ever and that after weeks of being in disaster response, even an easy application can feel overwhelming.
✨ If grant support is something your organization in use now, shoot us a DM or email [email protected] to learn more.

We’ll also be using our platform to highlight relief efforts from folks we know and trust so be sure to stay tuned for ways you can continue helping recovering communities in Western North Carolina.
