Great day with the Dell team at the Dell ETC in Round Rock.

We appreciated the opportunity to spend time with Dell teams and talk about how Cirrus Data helps simplify data mobility to Dell environments. And yes, we brought the Cirrus Data trucks.

The Cirrus Data trucks had a few enhancements over the summer, making them a lot more versatile. We’re not just moving block storage anymore. Cirrus Data now supports unstructured data and virtual workloads, and we recently added disaster recovery to the mix.

Three of the most widely used VMware migration tools now have the same problem.

Microsoft updated its Azure Migrate documentation to recommend alternatives when VDDK is unavailable. Red Hat published a support article about download failures. Nutanix Move users are reporting 404 errors.

Broadcom's position: VDDK "was never included with a software purchase." Migrations are "an unlicensed use case."

Cirrus Data Solutions does not use VDDK, VMware snapshots, or Changed Block Tracking. Our patented TDI technology operates at the block layer. It works regardless of what Broadcom decides to restrict next.

Architecture decisions made years ago are paying off now.

Your exit strategy should not require permission from the company you are leaving.

You saw the news. Last month, public VDDK downloads became unavailable. We didn’t notice.

Cirrus Data does not depend on VMware VDDK, Changed Block Tracking (CBT), or VMware snapshots to move data.

Stepping back, the issue isn’t the VDDK decision itself. It’s a migration tool’s dependency on it.

The goal from the beginning was simple: build a consistent approach to data mobility that isn’t dependent on the source platform’s data-movement capabilities.

A simpler path into Azure Local starts with how the destination VM is created.

Cirrus Migrate Cloud migrates workloads directly as portal-managed Azure Local VMs, helping teams avoid a standalone Hyper-V step and move into the Azure Local management experience more directly.
