Every Easter for the past 36 years, hundreds of people of all faiths gathered at Burnet Park for the Rev. Jim Mathews’ sunrise service. It didn’t matter if it was sunny, or raining (or snowing), people from all over Central New York joined Mass with chairs and blankets around 6 a.m.

During his Sunday service at St. Lucy’s Catholic Church in Syracuse this week, Mathews told his congregation he won’t be continuing the tradition of early morning Mass on the hilltop near the zoo this year.

Almost 2 years later and it has lasted through Omicron. Today Gov. Hochul in NYS has issued mask mandate in all public places! Folks we are not out of this, hospitals in CNY are at capacity. Please take care, stay safe, get vaccinated and remember when necessary, “Wear a mask, it saves lives!” MoH

Looking back at my only venture away from home during the pandemic. El Mar is where I belong! Hoping and praying we can all get back to this!!! As we prepare for the holiday season let us keep in mind the importance of familia, your unit, that tribe that keeps you going everyday! They are the true MVPs!
