Some new research caught our attention, and we think it's worth sharing.

The Center for Creative Leadership released a report called Staying Competitive Amid Economic Uncertainty, based on a 2025 survey of 325 mid- and senior-level HR and talent leaders. The findings reveal a concerning gap:

82% of those leaders say leadership development is a competitive advantage. But 71% expect to cut those budgets if the economy worsens.

Meanwhile, 84% agree that organizations investing in their people right now will be better positioned when conditions stabilize.

The research suggests that cutting leadership development to save money today risks far more tomorrow, including a less agile workforce, a weakened leadership pipeline, and a harder road to recovery.

We see this tension with organizations all the time. The ones that come out ahead are the ones that treat their people as the strategy, not an expense.
