The 100% Volunteer Protective Company #1 of the Fairmount Fire Department was formed in 1942 to cover the rapidly growing southeastern portion of The Town of Camillus. Located inside of Onondaga County in Central New York, Fairmount is located five miles west of the City of Syracuse, and is a proud member of Onondaga County's Western Section Line Officers Association. At 10:29, Fairmount was alerted to a Motor Vehicle Collision with Injuries – Signal 80 – Rollover at the intersection of West Genesee Street and Weatheridge Drive.

Fairmount Engine 5 (Engine 94), Rescue 1, and Miscellaneous 1 responded. Police arrived on scene and confirmed one vehicle on its side with an occupant trapped and requiring extrication.

Crews quickly went to work stabilizing the vehicle, including anchoring it to another vehicle to prevent movement during the extrication. Once stabilized, crews performed a full roof removal to gain access to the trapped occupant.

The occupant was successfully extricated and turned over to the awaiting WAVES ambulance for further evaluation.

SEALED BID SALE – 2018 CHEVROLET TAHOE

Fairmount Fire Department is accepting sealed bids for a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe with 72,235 miles.

The vehicle is currently being offered exclusively to first responder agencies and will be sold with its existing emergency equipment.

Bidding opens September 3. Sealed bids will be accepted from eligible first responder agencies. The vehicle will be awarded to the highest qualified bidder, provided the reserve price is met.

The Tahoe will be available for inspection from 9:00 AM–12:00 PM on:

* October 2

Congratulations to past Bunk-In and current Fairmount member Lohgan Padgett, who was sworn in today as a firefighter with the Utica Fire Department!

Lohgan came to Fairmount from the Huguenot Fire Company in Orange County and joined our Bunk-In Program while attending Onondaga Community College. After graduating in May 2025 with a degree from the SUNY OCC Fire Protection Program, Lohgan became a member of Fairmount Fire Department.

We’re proud to see another former Bunk-In turn his passion for the fire service into a career.

Signal 98 - 20 Genesee Street - Camillus Fire District

At approximately 21:00, Fairmount was alerted for an Industrial/Commercial Fire in the 20 block of Genesee Street in the Camillus Volunteer Fire Department District. Fairmount Engine 5 and Car 1 responded.

While en route, responding fire units were advised to stage a safe distance from the scene due to an active police incident. The initial call had been for a robbery in progress, and the suspect reportedly threatened that he was in possession of explosives when confronted by police and refused repeated commands to exit the business.

During the incident, the suspect claimed to be in possession of a firearm, and started a fire inside the building. Fire units remained staged until law enforcement was able to apprehend the suspect and secure the scene.

Once cleared by law enforcement, staged fire units responded into the scene. Fairmount was assigned primary fire suppression operations, with Engine 5’s crew advancing into the building and extinguishing the fire.

Fairmount units operated alongside multiple fire, EMS, and law enforcement agencies before clearing the scene.

Day 6 brought our Fairmount bunk-ins together with the Solvay bunk-ins for a full day of live-fire training.

Throughout the day, crews completed multiple live-fire evolutions, including multi-company operations, basement fires, search operations, and other fireground scenarios designed to bring together the skills developed throughout the week.

With that, Bunk-In Week is officially complete!

The bunk-ins will spend next week getting accustomed to their duty schedules, assigned rigs, and day-to-day life at Fairmount, along with some well-needed rest after a busy week of training, before starting classes.

Day 5 of Bunk-In Week

Day 5 brought the Solvay Fire Department bunk-ins back to The Yard for a challenging day focused on Firefighter Survival, Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Operations, and Fire Behavior.

The morning began with flashover and fire behavior training, giving bunk-ins the opportunity to observe changing fire conditions and reinforce the importance of recognizing rapidly deteriorating conditions.

Training continued with RIT pack operations and buddy breathing, followed by hands-on work with 2-to-1 rescue systems.

After lunch, bunk-ins were put through SCBA confidence drills before moving into basement firefighter removal and packaging techniques. The day concluded with stairwell movement and self-rescue training, reinforcing the skills firefighters may need when conditions go wrong.

Throughout the day, instructors from Fairmount and Solvay emphasized teamwork, communication, situational awareness, and firefighter survival.

Day 4 of Bunk-In Week 🚒

Day 4 brought the Solvay Fire Department bunk-ins together for a full day of Rescue Company Operations and Vehicle Fire training at Weitsman and The Tower.

The morning started with vehicle fire operations, giving all bunk-ins the opportunity to work through fire attack and the unique hazards associated with vehicle fires. Training then transitioned into vehicle stabilization, glass removal, and Res-Q-Jack operations.

After lunch, crews moved into hands-on vehicle extrication, working through door pops and removals, roof and side removals, dash movements, and steering wheel movements.

Throughout the day, bunk-ins worked alongside instructors from both departments, building their skills with rescue tools while emphasizing stabilization, teamwork, communication, and safe extrication operations.

Day 3 of Bunk-In Week

Day 3 brought the Solvay Fire Department bunk-ins back to The Yard for another full day of hands-on training, this time focusing on Truck Company Operations and Firefighter Survival skills.

Bunk-ins worked alongside instructors from both departments throughout the day on ground ladders, ladder transitions and climbing, forcible entry, victim removal techniques and drags, VEIS and window-based searches, search and victim removal, and roof ventilation.

The day challenged members to put multiple skills together while emphasizing teamwork, communication, efficient movement, and safe fireground operations.

Day 2 took the Fairmount Fire Department and Solvay Fire Department bunk-ins to The Yard for a full day focused on Engine Company Operations.

Bunk-ins worked alongside instructors from both departments through a variety of hands-on evolutions, including handline deployment, high-rise bundles, extended lays, rig-to-door stretches, flowing and moving, and cornering techniques.

The day provided plenty of repetitions and opportunities to build confidence in hose handling, movement, communication, and effective engine company operations.

Day 1 is in the books for our six new Fairmount Fire bunk-ins!

The morning started in the classroom with administrative orientation, running orders, and radio operations before transitioning into hands-on SCBA donning and doffing drills.

After lunch, the pace picked up with an afternoon of hands-on training covering hydrant operations, handlines, ground ladders, and additional SCBA donning and doffing drills.

The goal of Bunk-In Week is to build a strong foundation through repetition and hands-on experience while getting our newest members familiar with Fairmount’s equipment and operations.
