Busy Sunday for Fairmount

As members were cleaning up after the Open House, a fire alarm was transmitted for the 3700 block of Pegasus Circle. Engine 4, Engine 5, Truck 1, Squad 3, Car 2 and Car 3 went en route on dispatch. While on the way, dispatch advised units that the resident was reporting smoke coming from the laundry room. Crews investigated and found a minor dryer fire which had been extinguished prior to fire department arrival. Firefighters checked for extension.

While units were returning from the fire alarm, Engines 4 and 5 encountered a two vehicle Motor Vehicle Collision with Injuries at the intersection of Milton Ave and Onondaga Road. Crews assisted with patient care and addressed vehicle hazards. One patient was transported by WAVES to local hospital.

At 15:14, Fairmount was alerted to an Industrial/Commercial Fire at the Smurfit WestRock facility on Industrial Drive in the Solvay Fire Department district. Engine 5 and Car 3 responded along with the remainder of the box alarm assignment. Units arrived to find a minor fire on the dryer section of the paper machine. Engine 5s crew assisted Solvay with stretching a 2.5” leader line to the second floor where both Solvay and Fairmount crews used high rise packs to extinguish the fire. Units were on scene for approximately two hours. The fire was contained to the area of origin.

09/24/2026 - 3 Alarm Structure Fire - 4004 Box Car Lane

At 17:02, Fairmount and the mutual aid box alarm assignment were alerted to an unknown type of structure fire in the area of Milton Avenue and Cotton Street. Multiple callers throughout the first-due area reported heavy black smoke from an unknown origin.

Fairmount Engine 4 went en route on dispatch, arriving three minutes after dispatch. The structure fire was confirmed to be within the B&C Storage facility. Upon arrival, heavy fire was emanating from Building T, an approximately 11,200 ft² structure.

Throughout the course of the night, three alarms were transmitted, bringing mutual aid resources from around the county.

Due to the occupancy, the Town of Camillus Highway Department was requested to the scene with heavy equipment to assist with removing materials from within the building, allowing crews to extinguish remaining hot spots and complete overhaul operations.

9/23/2026 – Signal 98 – Solvay

At 13:09, Fairmount Engine 5 was activated as part of a box alarm assignment for a reported Industrial Fire in the Solvay Fire Department district.

Engine 5 and Car 3 were out on dispatched and arrived with Solvay units to find a large scrap pile on fire at the back of the yard. Engine 5 laid a supply line from the front gate to the back of the complex and then relay pumped to Taunton Ladder 5 for the use of their aerial master stream.

Units operated on scene for approximately one hour before returning to Fairmount.

09/16/2026

September 16, 2026 – Signal 80 with Entrapment – West Genesee Street and Vanida Drive

At 1:09 PM, Fairmount Fire was activated for a Signal 80 – Motor Vehicle Collision at the intersection of West Genesee Street and Vanida Drive. Fairmount 94 (Engine 5), which was responding to another alarm, was rerouted on dispatch.

Car 3 arrived and confirmed a two-vehicle Motor Vehicle Collision, with one vehicle rolled into a tree and an occupant entrapped. Because extrication was required, the Solvay Fire Department Rescue, which was staffed and available, was requested to assist.

Fairmount and Solvay crews stabilized the vehicle using cribbing and rescue jacks. Once the vehicle was stabilized, crews performed a partial roof removal to safely extricate the injured patient from the vehicle.

Two occupants were transported to local hospitals by WAVES and AMR of Central New York.

09/15/2026

Signal 99 - Huntsville Road - Solvay Fire District

At 09:02, Fairmount Engine 5 was dispatched as part of a box alarm assignment for a reported residential fire in the 100 block of Huntsville Road in the Solvay Fire District.

Engine 5 responded within one minute of dispatch and arrived as the second-due engine. First-arriving Solvay units reported smoke showing and declared a Signal 99.

Engine 5’s crew performed primary searches of Division 1 for any trapped occupants. All searches proved negative. Once the fire was extinguished, crews worked alongside Solvay and Taunton firefighters to ventilate the residence.

Fairmount units cleared the scene and returned to service by 10:00.

While Fairmount crews operated in Solvay, an additional crew remained at our firehouse to provide coverage for any in-district alarms.

This morning, two Fairmount firefighters and their families participated in the CNY Memorial Stair Climb held in Utica.

The CNY Memorial Stair Climb is held each year to honor the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001. Participants climb 110 floors—the height of the former World Trade Center towers—in remembrance of the 343 firefighters, 70 law enforcement officers, and 8 EMTs who lost their lives at Ground Zero. Each climber carries the name and photograph of a fallen hero throughout the climb.

The event is not a race, but a memorial and a powerful reminder of the sacrifice, dedication, and courage displayed by first responders on September 11th. The climb begins with a memorial ceremony, with several moments throughout the event timed to significant events from that morning.

We are proud of our members and their families for taking part in this year’s climb and helping fulfill the promise to Never Forget.

Signal 98 - 4309 Cleveland Road - Onondaga Hill

At 10:35, Fairmount was alerted to a residential fire on the 4300 block of Cleveland Road in the Onondaga Hill Fire Department district.

Fairmount Truck 1 and Car 1 responded on dispatch along with the remainder of the box alarm assignment. Fairmount Car 1 was the first arriving fire chief and assumed command.

Truck 1 arrived second due and was tasked with primary search operations. Once the primary search was complete, the crew checked for extension and assisted with overhaul. The fire was contained primarily contained to the area of origin with only minor extension into the first floor from the basement.

Fairmount cleared the scene and returned to service at 12:15.
