Love is the greatest gift of all !
My dad’s love for my mom is something I will never be able to fully describe with just words. His devotion to her is endless, steady, and unconditional. Every day, no matter how tired he is or how heavy his heart feels, he comes to sit beside her. He holds her hand gently, encourages her with soft words, and kisses her forehead like he always has. When Mom struggles to remember things or becomes frightened because of the dementia, he stays calm and patient, reminding her of the love they’ve shared throughout their lives.
Sometimes, when he thinks no one is watching, I see his tears fall as he looks at her—tears that come from fear, heartbreak, and deep love. It hurts him to see her health getting worse, but not once has he stepped away. Instead, he sings her favorite songs, the ones that used to make her smile, and keeps singing until she slowly falls asleep. In those moments, I can see the history of their love—decades of memories, promises, and moments that still live in his heart even when they fade from hers.
Even though dementia tries to steal so much, it can’t steal the love between them. Dad reminds her every day that she is cherished, that she is safe, and that she is still the woman he chose forever ago. Their love story may be facing its hardest chapter, but it remains unbreakable, tender, and truly beautiful.
