SYRACUSE FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE TWO STRUCTURE FIRES IN THE AFTERNOON HEAT
🔥HALL AVENUE FIRE🔥
Syracuse, NY – On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 1:02 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported fire at 118 Hall Avenue. Crews from Station 8 on South Salina Street arrived and found a 1½-story residential structure with smoke showing from the rear of the building. A Signal “99” was transmitted, indicating a working fire.
Firefighters stretched hose lines into the home and quickly located a fire in a rear bedroom while additional crews searched for occupants. The fire was knocked down in under 10 minutes and declared fully extinguished before the 20-minute mark. Searches of the building confirmed there were no victims.
The structure was a single-family home with fire damage limited to the room of origin and smoke and water damage extending to other areas of the residence. Five occupants were displaced and are receiving assistance from friends and family. There were no reported civilian injuries. One firefighter suffered injuries from a fall during fire operations and was transported to the hospital. The firefighter has since been released.
Fire Investigators determined the fire originated in the rear bedroom. The cause was accidental and determined to be an open flame placed too close to combustible materials. Crews remained on scene for over an hour assisting investigators and completing overhaul operations.
🔥CLOVER RIDGE DRIVE FIRE🔥
Syracuse, NY – While crews were still operating at the fire on Hall Avenue, Syracuse Firefighters were alerted at 2:21 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 427 Clover Ridge Drive. Crews from Station 17 on Burnet Avenue arrived to find heavy fire coming from the basement garage area of a one-story residential structure. A Signal “99” was transmitted, indicating a working fire.
Firefighters stretched hose lines to the seat of the fire while additional crews searched for potential occupants. During operations, firefighters had to exercise caution due to live electrical wires that had detached from the structure and were arcing on the ground in front of the residence. The fire was knocked down in approximately 20 minutes and fully extinguished before the one-hour mark. Thorough searches of the structure confirmed there were no victims.
Fire Investigators determined the fire originated in the garage area. The cause remains under investigation. The structure sustained significant damage to the basement and first floor. Two occupants were displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. One occupant was evaluated on scene by EMS but refused transport. There were no injuries to firefighters.
Due to elevated temperatures and several companies having responded to both afternoon fires, additional crews were rotated through the scene during operations. The Syracuse Fire Department’s Medical Emergency Response Vehicle (MERV-1) responded to assist more than 40 firefighters with cooling and medical monitoring during the incident. Crews remained on scene for over two hours, assisting investigators and completing overhaul operations.
