May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Here in New York, Gov. Hochul established a New York Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Commission tasked with enhancing the community's economic and social well-being and addressing the health and educational needs critical to AAPI communities. The commission makes policy recommendations, coordinates programs, and implements public education campaigns to raise awareness among AAPI individuals about state and local resources.

Hochul appointed Central New York’s Tai Shaw, chair of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association Syracuse Chapter, to the commission in 2024. Shaw is an active community member and a champion of Syracuse's AAPI community. Among his many contributions, Shaw is founder of the CNY Blessing Box, which offers food distribution to new Americans, refugees and immigrants, including food items tailored to the diverse dietary and cultural needs of these communities.

Today, INSPYRE welcomed educators from the Syracuse City School District, component districts of Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES and CiTi BOCES as part of the School-Industry Cooperative Series.

The group toured INSPYRE, learned more about how we support entrepreneurs, startups and innovation in Central New York, and then stayed to work from the space for the day. Programs like this help connect educators with real-world experiences and industry insights they can bring back to their classrooms and students.
