Four years ago tomorrow, January 6, 2020 (Epiphany, one of the reasons behind the name), I launched Epiphany Bookkeeping, LLC into the world, hoping for a way to engage my brain (I was a stay-at-home mom of a 9 month old), do something meaningful, and bring in a little extra income to support my family in the midst of a trying season of Search & Call (the online dating process of matching church and pastor together).

I didn’t know what it would become or what I wanted it to be exactly, but I took the risk and launched even though my background was music and theatre and church ministry.

Four years later, I’m so proud of myself for taking that risk. I’m so grateful for all those who have supported me, cheered me on, shared my name with someone, and just talked me up in general 🙂. I’m insanely grateful for (and unbelievably honored by) all those who have invited me in to their business or personal financials, trusted me, and made this work so very important and meaningful through the last four years.

In seminary, there was a class we talked about church finances and I remember one of the professors saying something to the effect of: as a minister, people will share about heartbreak and affairs and all manner of difficult things before they’ll talk with you about money… Well, I guess I found the way to jump straight into the money talk! 🤣

What a jump it has been and continues to be. I can’t wait to see what year 5 has in store!

This might be a foodie account in disguise... 😂 (Bookkeepers need to eat and restaurants need bookkeepers, right?!?!), but I had the best, quick, picnic lunch for my kiddo's preschool graduation today (😭😭), thanks to Happy Belly eatery + juice bar!! It's one of my favorite food places in Tacoma so far, everything I've ordered has been delicious - bagels, grain bowls, wraps, smoothies! Plus, they are the friendliest people! Definitely worth a visit (lots, really...)!!

Did you know???

-Epiphany Bookkeeping was started as a part-time gig while I was a stay-at-home mom to my then 1 year old kiddo (I needed something to engage my brain!!)

-I am a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, completed the Tax-$avvy Bookkeeper course, and am working towards become a Certified Bookkeeper through AIPB (the American Institute of Certified Bookkeepers)!

-I started learning about church bookkeeping in my last years of working as a minister, then as an office administrator at a church that needed help cleaning up their books. The more I learned, the more I enjoyed the process of taking that church’s books from chaotic to clear and helpful, it feels kind of like putting a puzzle together (I love puzzles!).

-I kept learning and eventually decided I wanted to help other people, churches, and businesses feel more confident in their bookkeeping and Epiphany Bookkeeping was born in January 2020.

-For over three years, I’ve enjoyed working with clients all over the U.S., helping them feel confident in their financials and helping them have more time and energy for the parts of their business they enjoy most!

Since September, my kiddo has been going to preschool two mornings a week in Gig Harbor, WA. Besides the amazing school, my favorite part has been stopping in at to work, get coffee, and sometimes (a lot) something to eat.

It’s a very cool space with tables a plenty, free wifi, art for sale by local artists on the wall, and on the weekends they have live music from local bands. And they have this thing called the Tomavo bagel that is absolutely delicious: everything bagel, cream cheese, spinach, avocado, tomato, and a generous drizzle of balsamic glaze. It’s SO GOOD, y’all!

The kid will be ending his time at outdoor school in June and I’m going to miss this awesome space that is such a good office-away-from-home, the friendliest staff, the best breve lattes around, and this bagel deliciousness.

If you are ever in Gig Harbor, do yourself a favor and stop in for coffee and food!! You won’t regret it!!
